Who could I pay (and how much) to port the hugo theme of my blog to a
@quarto_pub
theme?

my blog (https://brodrigues.co) theme is a variation of smol (https://github.com/colorchestra/smol)

jadeynryan,

@andreashandel @brodriguesco @quarto_pub @jadeynryan thanks for the tag Andreas! Bruno, I’ll take a look at your repo later this week and let you know if it’s something I can do.

jadeynryan,

@brodriguesco To clarify -- are you wanting to port your entire blog (content + theme) to a Quarto website?

jadeynryan,

@brodriguesco sounds good! Can we set up a short call to talk more details?

A few days ago, @njtierney , @adamhsparks , and @milesmcbain reviewed {soils} in a livestream. {soils} is a WIP package for generating parameterized reports.

Throughout the entire session, my brain was exploding 🤯 with all the nuggets of wisdom, tips & tricks, and best practices.

I wrote up my thoughts, reflections, and notes in this quick blog post.

https://jadeyryan.com/blog/2024-01-22_package-review/

jadeynryan,

@njtierney @teunbrand @adamhsparks @milesmcbain That mostly makes sense. I've tried looking into the {ggtern} source code, but it was pretty over my head. So I think I ended up just wrapping all the {ggtern} functions in suppressWarnings().

Hey folks,

Tomorrow at 12pm Sydney/Melbourne time we will be trying out the first round of this live package review. Currently we have myself, @milesmcbain , and @adamhsparks joining for review, which is very exciting!

We will be looking at
@jadeynryan 's
{soils} package: https://github.com/WA-Department-of-Agriculture/soils

And if there is time,
@ngiangre 's {kidsides} package: https://github.com/ngiangre/kidsides

This link will show you what time that is in your timezone: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Twitch+R+package+review&iso=20240121T12&p1=152&ah=1&am=30

Thanks to everyone who has been very helpful with sharing resources and experience and enthusiasm: @tanho, @wviechtb, @michcampbell and @hye
I haven't had as much time to iron out the twitch stream as I would like so hopefully it all works out! I'll post a link here when I've got it working.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Thank you Nick, Miles, and Adam so much. I learned a ton from you all and am very much looking forward to tuning in to more of these types of streams!

Everyone should watch the recording for best practices and insight into how to review/think through R packages.

Hey folks, I'm thinking about doing a live stream of package development, or potentially package review.

I was reviewing a package for my research group on a video call and I think it was helpful to demonstrate the process, and see someone think through a problem.

My goal is that I want to showcase the process of doing package development and reviewing, and I think it would be fun to do it on twitch, or something like that.

I've never done anything like this before, I was considering doing it this Sunday, but could also do during the work week in the morning (Australia Tasmania time - afternoon for USA viewers).

I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on how to do streaming well, is Twitch the right place to do it?

If you'd like a package reviewed I would be happy to take a look, and promise I will be kind :)

jadeynryan,

@njtierney hey Nick! I definitely would watch your stream.

I’m new to package dev and would love a review of {soils}. It’s for creating parameterized Quarto reports for farmers to understand the soil health of their fields compared to others in the same county or cropping system. I’m working on making the documentation more clear. Then the next step is to use this package to develop a Shiny app. Happy to chat more!

https://github.com/WA-Department-of-Agriculture/soils

jadeynryan,

@njtierney no soils knowledge needed! I’d just really appreciate some pointers for the code, pkg structure, how to incorporate better error message, testing, etc.

Very excited to see how this pkg dev/review streaming concept unfolds for you! I’m sure it’ll be a valuable learning experience for many.

Just came across this brilliant internet treasure of a guy teaching his cat how to code with HTML and CSS.

It looks like it hasn't been updated since 2019, but still has great content!

🎉 The Coding Cats Etsy Shop is Live! 🐱💻🩵

I'm excited to launch these cat & code-themed designs. It's taken awhile to open shop because I've had to order samples and make sure the quality is the best of the best for you all.

Your feedback matters! Let me know your favorites and what you'd like to see. I'll be adding more designs and products in the coming weeks.

Is it possible to set a code chunk in to execute only if a variable has a specific value? I am setting up parameterized reports and some code blocks are extraneous for some reports in which sets of variables have missing values.

jadeynryan,

@DataAngler expanding on what @milvus said: conditional code evaluation is possible. These slides show an example: https://jadeynryan.github.io/2023_posit-parameterized-quarto/#/conditional-code-evaluation.

You could change the initial ‘out_type’ variable to some filtering expression that checks if your variables in question have missing values or not.

@load_dependent @scheidegger introduced Typst support in Quarto 1.4 in his talk. Here’s his GitHub repo for the poster example https://github.com/cscheid/2023-posit-conf-talk/tree/main/demos/poster. So cool! 😎

I have three 🦋 Bluesky invites available.

I know I have one more person in queue who I promised one, to, but trying to find that exchange (I should have bookmarked it Raindrop vs rely on any 🐘 app) has been frustrating.

So, I can give 2 out rn until I hear back from them.

jadeynryan,

@hrbrmstr I’d love to try it out if you still have one available :blobcatblep:

jadeynryan,

@hrbrmstr made one with an invite from Alan :)

I’ve used packages like xaringan to render PowerPoint slides, which works great. Does anyone know of an R package for embedding recorded audio/video in the slides?

jadeynryan,

@MarkLaVenia you can embed videos in quarto documents and presentations https://quarto.org/docs/authoring/videos.html
