After further reading it seems like a Mastodon self-destruct might be extreme since it also tries to delete anything federated out. I’m not really looking to do that! So fellow folks, what is the best way to decommission a instance?

@fribygda Yeah, thats pretty much what I thought would happen if I just stop the processes and never start it again. I was just checking to find out if there were any details I was unaware of. I Certainly wouldn't want to clog up somebodies queue with a bunch of jobs that can never be completed. Thanks!

I’ve been running my own Mastodon instance for over a year now and it’s been a fun hobby, but I think I’m going to migrate to another (larger) instance and bring mine down. It’s been fun though!

Though I have been thinking about setting up some other server. Not sure what yet… looks pretty cool and there’s this tiny project I found called that looks really interesting. is just so massive and it requires resources I don’t feel like allocating anymore.

Hopefully whatever other federated server I set up can be used by . I know there are a couple that have implemented that Mastodon API specifically for that reason.
