krash,

I can vouch for nobara. WiFi and touchscreen worked flawlessly OOTB.

Which RSS aggregator do you use? I cannot seem to find one that works for me.

I cannot stand google news any more, too much spam, clickbait and advertisement. So I decided to try to selfhost an RSS aggregator to make myself a news feed that I would be comfortable with. Being RSS such an “ancient” thing I thought there will be many mature systems, but I’m not sure that’s the case…...

krash,

I went with freshRSS and was happy to have a SH alternative, but the UI is abhorrent. Even with ReadYou as a 3rd party app the sync of what was read and not was janky. I went with miniflux and couldn’t be happier. The again, my requirements are very basic.

krash,

I recently made a move from FreshRSS to miniflux, and it has a so much more cohesive UI. And its much snappier.

Highly recommend it.

krash,

If running linux, what command should be run? Shred isn’t viable on a SSD, as it will only tear them down. Shred was designed with HDD in mind.

The meal planner feature have been a godsend for our household.

I know part of what makes it expensive is the propagation of messages in complex rooms (I.e. the official matrix room). I haven’t hosted matrix servers myself, but data.haus did which I was on until it sunsetted late last year due to this issue.

krash,

Sideberrys implementation is good, but the native, experimental feature blows it out of the water. Its that good.

krash,

I’ve been using a lot of different apps. Then I tried using tasker plugin along with dataview in Obsidian - but it was too convoluted. I settled on using vikunja for tasks that I need to keep track of, and the things I commit to goes into my “today” note in Obsidian.

Generally it is not advisable to have more than one source of information for your tasks, but this setup worked for me.

krash,

This. I asked this question on unihertz kickstarter campaign page, and their answer was avoiding the question.

Major android versions are nice, but security updates are a must, or you’ll be taking huge risks with the data on your phone.

krash,

They announced a sequel coming in 2025 squeals excitedly

krash,

Matrix, xmpp, IRC or even rocketchat are better alternatives.

krash,

Osthyvel (a cheese slicer). I kinda miss it every time I’m on vacation and I have no means to get the expected thickness of a cheese slice.

This is the epitome of first world problems.

krash,

I was in Oslo yesterday, and brunost is fucking amazing 🤤

krash,

Actually, windows puts 95% of it files in a single directory, and sometimes you get a surprise DLL in your \system[32] folder.

krash,

I want to start with Btrfs and snapshots, is there a good, beginner friendly tutorial for those coming from a ext* filesystem?

JUST TODAY I was going to buy WinRar. I've used the software forever, for free, and I just thought... I appreciate this, they've never given me grief, and I'm going to pay them.

And I went on their page to subscribe for a lifetime membership, and they wanted 20 bucks, which I was okay with, but it does not include Major Updates! I guess I’ll buy it and just click the do not check for updates button but that seemed kind of, I don’t know....

krash,

Also, the GUI frontend on Peazip is far more pleasing to the eye.

krash,

Gemini is encrypted by default, but they both share a lot of similarities.

krash,

Does Nobara have surface kernel built in?!?? This is news to me, might reinstall due to this.

krash,

For Lemmy users who just want to hang out and chill, I created room just for this purpose: matrix.to/#/

Its super new, which means we can do what we want out of it.

Welcome!

krash,

My bad! Had to change some settings 🙃

Try again at matrix.to/#/.ml:matrix.org

krash,

Bear with me during my amateur hour 😅

New link: matrix.to/#/.ml:matrix.org
