Personally I've had the opposite experience -- I've been getting far more engagement here than I ever did on Reddit. Maybe my reddit comments just weren't good lol but they would always stay at 1 point and get lost in the sea of other comments

The main mastodon instance got defederated by many other instances in the early days, but when they added more mod tools they were welcomed back in and they're going strong to this day. Here's hoping

I do think you're being a tad optimistic -- many users of subs like /r/memes will probably keep chugging along and accept their reddit overlords indefinitely. But as long as enough power users leave such that the content feels noticably worse, I think reddit will still feel the hurt

My wife is a big fan, drawn in by the songs she recognizes and the promise of exercise. But ever since we visited Japan and tried the rhythm games in the arcades there we’ve both felt Just Dance to be a bit lacking – the tracking isn’t very sensitive and has a huge tolerance for accepting wrong/mistimed moves
