Sorry, I’ve been AFK a fair bit lately. This has been an issue with lemmy previously, I guess it still is. I’ll give it a kick tonight when I get home.

Just restarted all the lemmy containers… doesn’t seem to have made a difference 😕

edit: ok, after a few minutes of uptime it now seems to be showing correctly 🎉

Hmm sorry I can’t help. Though this sort of question may see a better audience over at Whirlpool. Much higher density of nerds over there 🤓

We have a very quiet Bluey community already 🙂

Nice photo… I really should get back to Melbourne to have a proper visit some day.

S3fs, but it’s only images as required, not large ongoing transfers. Have uploaded multi GB backups with s3fs and monitoring showed gigabit speeds.

Latency is a major factor. The server is sub 1ms to the Wasabi endpoint. Higher latency will negatively impact transfers that involves lots of files. Small numbers of large files should be fine.

Yes it’s federated but NSFW is blocked.

No, the legal risks are too high for me personally and the instance as a whole.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a host exhaust swap before RAM is full…

Looks to be postgres related. I’ve changed a couple of settings, lets see if it happens again.

Definitely, I understand some people would not want this.

Is there a reason this shouldn’t go into the existing Australian politics community?

lodion,
@lodion@aussie.zone avatar

I’d rather leave political discussions within the generic political community until such time as the volume of comments warrants a seperate community. I’m also not in favour of temporary communities.

I can see that most of the volume in /c/australianpolitics right now is links to articles. Perhaps to encourage discussion we should limit news links to /c/news (which I’ve just created). Leaving the politics community for human discussion.

Tldr of what I’ve posted elsewhere; I’m undecided at this stage but leaning towards defederating. When more information is available I’ll make a post soliciting feedback, I don’t want to make a change like this without user feedback.

What is the long-term storage plan for Lemmy instances?

Over time, Lemmy instances are going to keep aquiring more, and more data. Even if, in the best case, they are not caching content and they are just storing the data posted to communities local to the server, there will still be a virtually limitless growth in server storage requirements. Eventually, it may get to a point where...

The largest table holds data that is only needed by Lemmy briefly. There is a scheduled job to clear it… Every 6 months. There are active discussions on how best to handle this.

On my instance I’ve set a cronjob to delete everything but the most recent 100k rows of that table every hour.

Done, thanks.
