@taylormccue aw that really sucks :( i've been in a weird anxious state lately because my game is basically ready to release but i haven't done it yet.... then even after i release it i'll probably still be anxious for a while lol
๐ in other news i'm stress testing the password system by making sure all 85 million ish passwords decode correctly without inconsistencies and the game maker runner keeps running out of memory every 12 mlllion or so, claiming to have hit a peak 48 GB of memory before crashing (i don't think i have that much RAM???)
@mcc i'm using game maker, which is mostly garbage-collected these days (and i'm not using any feature that isn't garbage-collected) so i think it might be difficult to figure out the source of the leak.... it could be a bug in their gc, or it could be that i wrote my loop in a way that doesn't let things get collected? i'm not sure if my password generation/validation still leaks memory in normal circumstances or if it gets cleaned up
@mcc oh, i think i figured out the problem - the garbage collector in game maker only runs at the end of a frame (even if you call the "gc_collect" function, that just tells it to run at the end of the current frame) and my loop is happening within one frame
๐ game developers who love sound effects and say stuff like "sound effects are an integral part of a game's audio" vs. game developers who are slowly running out of things to do other than the sound effects
๐ i guess now that all content is done except the opening sequence, ending sequence, and sound effects, it's a pretty good time to do sound effects (i can play through the entire game and make notes on what needs a sound effect)
For deeper context I'm working on baby's first character select for a game and I kinda am hoping to see the wishes and dreams of trans people so that they can make their ideal self.
@taylormccue i think when i first started transitioning i wanted to wear really cute frilly elaborate colorful clothes, like lolita fashion, i don't remember any specific people i wanted to look like but that was kinda my ideal. i really liked when games had lots of cute clothing options, that was the main reason i bought pokemon x
