@anathema_device pain is such a weird thing. I fractured my nose a few weeks ago and had surgery to realign it last week. I woke up from the general with searing pain, 7/10, tears streaming down my face, worse than the initial injury. Was given two doses of IV morphine before it eased.
I was dreading recovery but it's been nothing. I've barely maintained Panadol/nurofen coverage, only took the good stuff the first few nights proactively against hurting myself in my sleep.
@anathema_device it's felt weird occasionally, waves of tingles like I could feel it healing, but no actual pain.
Did I luck out? Was the initial pain just a temporary reaction to the surgery? Or does my body get really into its ADHD mode and just goes blind to ongoing pain messages when they're temporarily muted by painkillers?
I would like to stick a coating onto my home office window to reflect infra-red radiation with minimal reduction of visible spectrum light. Does anyone know much about this?
Random internet searches mostly return results for mirror coatings, or broad-spectrum tints. Not quite what I'm after.
@tj@anathema_device They still have a similar product but needs installation - wonder if there's something potentially toxic in the unapplied material? Or maybe just got tired of complaints about misapplied film. Or decided it was more profitable not selling it retail. https://www.3m.com.au/3M/en_AU/p/d/b00016645/
I'm not loving the automatic redirects from ABC News website to the app. Mostly because I have Firefox set up to open to last page, which if was a redirected article, bumps me over to the ABC News app and then I have to go back to Firefox a second time and close the window before I can do whatever I meant to do, and half the time I forget 🙄
Is it something I can turn off? Or get it to ask me?
At Bunnings by 7am to buy a fly trap, set up. Still plenty of flies, not one in the trap :(
Spent $50 on an encoder to capture sound from SO’s cassettes, elderly boom box died. Elderly Walkman had no power adapter ($35) so bought one from Jaycar. Plugged in power, smoke rose from Elderly Walkman 🤦 Have now ordered a new cassette player ($42).
Have now spent more on digitising SO’s tapes (which he hasn’t listened to in 17 years) than it would have cost to just get them done professionally.
@anathema_device for future plans, you could always hit up local makerspaces or libraries; they sometimes have this sort of equipment available for lending. Or put a call out to the fediverse, I'm sure someone would have the stuff you need 💙
“Liberal leader Peter Dutton accuses PM, Shorten of politicising robodebt report”
Mate, you lot own this. It’s entirely LNP driven, executed, and fucked up. Pointing out how gross a travesty Robodebt was, how massive the betrayal of the most unfortunate in our society was, isn’t politics.
It’s the truth.
But I can see how that would be hard for you to spot.
@anathema_device and this bullshit: "When the problems were brought to the attention of the government at the time, the program was stopped." There's 1000 pages of proof that there opposite of this happened, arsehole.
Catherine Holmes deduced it perfectly: "venality, incompetence and cowardice" that Dutto still embraces to this day.
