Manchester SciFi Book Club originally met at Madlab on Egde Street in the Northern Quarter of Manchester UK . Our inaugural meeting was on 9th January 2010. So our group has been discussing Science Fiction novels for >10 years! You can see our whole book list on our previously read books page. Our first book was “The Forever War” by Joe Haldeman. We now have a monthly online meeting and chit-chat in between.

I have just started "The Cries of Alaere" by Barra Hart - I think the page count on https://mcrscifi.wordpress.com/2024/04/20/next-science-fiction-book-may-2024/ is wrong - as my ebook looks shorter.

Anyhow - plenty of time to finish it for Tuesday evening's meeting (I hope).

If you've read it come along to discuss.
Followers will get the meeting URL tuesday afternoon.

It is time to start reading "The Cries of Alaere" by Barra Hart in time for our virtual meeting next week.

When we read his previous book we found it unusually positive about human nature.

The author was kind enough to join the second half of the discussion and explain his viewpoint.

I've read 117 books this year, reply with a number from 1 to 117 and I'll tell you something about that book.

(this is a personal reading challenge, not a brag or competition)

On the 21st of Nov we discussed Moonday Letters by Emma Itäranta

There was some doubt about how well the 'spiritualism' fitted into an otherwise hard-scifi narrative so we gave it a respectable score of 3.385 Cylinder cities.

We will take December off and start the new year with
Venomous Lump Sucker by Ned Bowman

Read it and join our discussion on 16th. 7pm UK time.

If you start reading
"Moonday letters" today, you should finish it in time for Tuesday's meeting.

(Somewhere between my eyes and my fingers I replaced 'Letters' with 'Papers' - I think I caught all the instances of this error, but perhaps not...).

Here's a list we might look through for ideas for our next batch of books :

mcrscifi,
@mcrscifi@wandering.shop avatar

Ha, rookie mistake - none of the sci-fi books on that list are out yet, so it is super unlikely they will be in paperback in time for the next batch. (we could add them to a 'future' list)
