mesamunefire,

I've been sorting by new. It's been a pretty good experience so far.

mesamunefire,

One of the best thing about the fediverse is giving power to the users. The algorithm is open source, we can all see it. The "algorithm" is just what gets posted. And we end up with real convos.

mesamunefire,

And videos you already watched...

mesamunefire,

Excellent article. I'm moving back to IC instead of managing (laid off all 900 people at my last job) and it's such a nessessary switch to learn the day to day again.

mesamunefire,

Yeah code has it where is shows up/downs raw.

mesamunefire,

True, Ms has been pushing into the Linux side of things last 5 years or so. PowerShell is also super powerful, but I still prefer bash.

And then wine/proton is moving into the Linux with Ms on top. I love Linux and it's my daily driver, but I don't think it's a zero sum game.

mesamunefire,

We do the same with old containers.

We also have our own compost. Started from some fishing worms and kitchen scraps. Black gold has helped out with pots and gardening.

mesamunefire,

I made that mistake a couple of times. I know most guides say that worms can eat a lot, but I found another that stated worms can go without fresh food for a week. So what I do is have a huge bucket and just put in a very small amount of everything and a tiny bit of dirt. Then once a week, I’ll give them food scraps cut up, some leaves, and turn the pile with a spoon. I put a water bottle in with them to help with the temperature. I live in a desert as well so I water them once every three days ish but on one side, that way, if they feel like they have too much water, they can migrate.

One thing I did notice is once the pile got established, the pile itself got easier to self regulate. It seems the best way to get a compost pile started is to literally get some from someone else and start there. I wish more people around me would do composting so we could share.

mesamunefire,

Do you happen to have the stl? That looks cool.

mesamunefire,

Nice thanks! I have an oooood finder in a corner that mostly makes plant pots nowadays. Might go and throw this in and see how it comes out.

mesamunefire,

I'm thinking of doing the same. I was a power user in some niche communities, hopefully I can convince some friends to move over.

mesamunefire,

RIF was my daily driver for years! I was so sad when this all went down. But it's for the best, lemmy, Mastodon, and peertube is really cool to investigate and explore.

mesamunefire,

I think you hit the mail on the head. All social media succeeds based on their power users and community. If just a small amount of people switch, the platform sto of s exponentially growing which looks bad for advertising. Especially if all these people are the small percentage that helped moderate the entire platform.

mesamunefire,

I use newpipe. There are others but newpipe lets you subscribe to multiple servers not just peertube instances.

mesamunefire,

Two years ago, I became a lead then manager. The real answer is more money and being in the position to protect/unblock/grow my team. It was successful in my opinion, but I'm biased haha.

It was definitely a mixed bag. The top level at my old company was basically mia for years, so we had to figure it out on our own. Political capital was spent to make sure my team had what they needed. I rusted a bit on the tech side, but given that I have two offers within two weeks or so since the company imploded, maybe I still have it.

mesamunefire,

I'm getting a job as a developer again. More $$ for less responsibility. TBH I'm burt out on the manager role. It didn't matter of my team did good or bad when upper management went and got in trouble with the law and shut the whole business down.

mesamunefire,

In my case, my team was filled with SMEs and I was the dumb one. And the idiots were the ones we all reported to. Leadership ended up selling a building twice, got into legal trouble with the fing IRS, and then threw us under the bus even though we were profitable. Lol. Fun stuff.

mesamunefire,

It’s open source so anyone can contribute. With how much feedback everyone is giving, hopefully that means things will continue to get better.

mesamunefire,

Hoping that we get more pis in the future, but thin clients are still decent for less that 100.
