Just been to (of all places) to have micro-suction on my ears, because I had wax buildup for the last week on one side in particular. Appointment lasted less than 20 minutes and cost £55. Very professional guy who did the cleaning. Feel much better now for sure.

mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof so very horrible that. I speak about the deathness and the slightly painful ear. not nice at all. nore is nice when you go for the ear clearout. but after that, wow you seemb to hear alot more if only for a day or 2. this is your brain reconfigureing it's self after so long with one input blocked. i'm glad that the pain is over for you sir. happy super hearing for as long as it lasts. :)

mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof @runewake2 yay don't say young onj, they were mad long before this. after all we have windows 11. blote filled piece of crap. pardon my language sir, your refined hearing pallet I dare say does not abide such abhorrent language, I apologise. believe it or not windows 8 was the os wit fast response times. many optimizations were done to save on ram and CPU usage. these have been dispensed with in later windows 10 builds. or feature creep take your pick sir. i'll stop boring you now...

mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof @kev @runewake2 yep, and running windows 10 in here this vm :) I will never be prompted for an upgrade to 11 on here because i did not add the tpm bits or made this vm boot using efi. over committing ram is a true blessing I must say. it's when you give a guest os more ram than you actually have. this is where on linux a swap file comes in handy. and because kvm is a type one hyperviser, you get allmost bare metal speeds. type 1 the virtual machine software interacts directly with hardware resources does not depend on the os as a translation layer. type 2, relies on the os to do translations and what have you. vmware workstation is type 2. sorry for rambling. if windows 11 is this bad, windows 12 may be a shit shew. you may be able to remove all ai components from windows 12 this is a maybe. but no doubt more eye candy will be added bogging the system down even more.

The date: December 31.
The year: 2011.
The time: About 20:14.
The event: I'm opening a champagne bottle, and my lovely wife Kirsten and I are toasting the end of 2011 and the start of 2012.

Opening the bottle was supposed to be a run-of-the-mill event, but...
Let's just say bubbles, and a bottle that's been shaken around in a car is probably not a good thing.
Every year it's traditional that I play and post this recording for it's comedic value, every year I hear it I simply can't help but laugh. You don't need video to understand what happens, and to enjoy it with us. Listen and chuckle.
Happy new year from Jake, Alice, Kirsten and myself and enjoy yourselves.

PS. No Kirstens were harmed in the making of this recording, despite the cork shooting out of the bottle faster than you can say 2023, and nearly decapitating her.

A prosperous and enriching 2024 to all.
If this year was bad, I hope the next is better.
If this year was great, I hope the next one exceeds expectations in more ways than you can count.

mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof same to you sir! maybe even an outstanding for next year? it depends on how the wind blows globally these wars scare me if I'm onist. don't talk about my feelings much, but 1, it's new years eve and 2, I feel like trust in you is well placed. I don't unload on just anyone after all. what ever this new year brings lets face it all like champions.

My only complaint about the XFS file system is that you cannot shrink it. Otherwise, it's a good file system.

mhussain,

@Linux_Is_Best @housepanther how accessible is alma linux? i've wanted to give it a spin, could you check? basicly is orca the screen reader on the iso, can orca be launched so that the system could be installed with orca the screen reader?

mhussain,

@Linux_Is_Best @housepanther and yet the installer is non accessible, at least I've not been able to get orca to talk or even launch with the installer? ffs it's like opensuse and distros like it are in the 18th senchary when it comes to accessibility. Debian is accessible so is Ubuntu mate.

mhussain,

@chris @housepanther @Linux_Is_Best hi, the accessibility, I was talking to was for people like me who are blind. other types of accessibility for people with say moter control issues or speech to text I don't know the status of. screen readers are text to speech. gennerally, the state of accessibility as a glowble thing on linux is not the best. hell there's one core developer for orca the main screen reader. that's got to tell you something. if sed developer was unable to continue for what ever reason, we would be totaly scrood. pardon my crass language.

mhussain,

@housepanther @Linux_Is_Best @chris the thing about fedora is, yeah you get latest packages but not all codex are preinstalled. so if your mom wanted to watch a video or something there may be issues. mp3 support is part of the iso I believe since the paytant expired.

mhussain,

@housepanther @Linux_Is_Best @chris then, yes fedora is the one in that case frequent updates of packages and updates are stable

mhussain,

@Linux_Is_Best @housepanther @chris hi mate, I never clamed your mom was tech anything all moms are ausom. if you get a chance, could you check if orca runns on it? better still if you would not mind, could you send me a link to the iso, I can then check it out in vm?

mhussain,

@thurrott that would be due to windows narrator not launching on the first release of these set of release media? I'm blind and narrator is a requirement for fresh install sinarios. and general troubleshooting. ps, thank you for your coverage on the goings on over at microsoft land. :)

mhussain,

@thurrott my last question to you fine sir, if you would not mind. when you tryed out tiny 11, do you know if narrator worked on it? am thinking of trying it out and narrator would be a requirement for setup and when in the main os.

There's a word for people that use very obviously tonal metronomes and then write something in an adjacent, clashing key, and I just can't think what it is...

mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof dissonance?

Took my son and sister in-law out to dinner last night at an Indian restaurant nearby. Food, fantastic. Service, wonderful. Price for three people... £52.
Now I'm pretty sure they under-charged me but I didn't look at the receipt to find out.

mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof @mhussain thanks matey. :)

@fireborn that would be judgeing by the time fraim you've mentioned v1703? that is truly an old build. if you wish to upgrade I would say performing a inplace upgrade would work, keeping your files and settings.

    mhussain,

@fireborn arr, running a inplace upgrade by using fresh media downloaded from ms site I ment, sorry if i did not make sence. curious, what tools did you use to modify the windows iso?

So, the reset is taking... forever... it is only at 19% after sitting all night, this tells me the HD is oldand needs replacing. I'm hoping I can replace it for a decent price locally, it is an option anyway... I may not even bother and may just get an inexpensive laptop for work stuff. I like having it as abackup for times like this when headphones are uncomfortable. There are some pretty decent spc ones out there that would let me play some games as well. All to consider later though.

    mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof @blindbat84 I I captain! got a really bad stinking cold here got the old vix on and am in bed not feeling very happy currently. and nope, it's not man flue! why do people feel like they must at every tern trivialize mail colds/flues? we both suffer equally. sorry for the rant, forgive me, when I don't feel well, I'm a little rotter.

@thunderbird hi, in older versions of thunderbird, you were able to remove the lightning extention. in these current versions of thunderbird, this is not possible. I don't use the calander functionallity at all, could there be away of disableing this? this would also declutter the ui, for screen reader users such as myself. I would be very greatful if you could look in to this? also I have 20000 email messages on average, when that many messages are in a single folder, thunderbird getts laggy, could this also be looked in to?

    mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof sorry for the verbal spam sir. sad to hear, but I'm glad he is well. I remember a recording you may have made, showing Jake on how to disassemble a hard drive? sorry if this never happened, could have been made up. but you were showing Jake something to do with a hard drive. tell me if I'm dreaming won't you? :) I used to use linux, but am now back on windows 10. i'm getting better perf for the things I do. a utility you may find of interest in the windows world to do with vmware and vms and configuration, is this. it's a hidden options tweaker for your .vmx files fully accessible and portable i'll link you to the sourceforge page. doo backup your .vmx of your vm before trying this there's an option to expoze host smbios information display your host info in the vm it's self from msinfo32 in the vm. https://sourceforge.net/projects/vmtweaker/ I hope this is of use to you. many options for funzies. direct link hope it works. https://kumisystems.dl.sourceforge.net/project/vmtweaker/VMTweaker/VM%20Tweaker%200.13.3.50/VM_Tweaker_0.13.3.50.zip

I am not sure why, but recently when I tab around the task bar, I get to a region of the screen that reads, "pane dragging". Another tab, nothing is announced. Another tab, start button. And I saw this now on clean Windows 11 installs. Clearly they forgot to train some team somewhere about accessibility - this is why it should be an ongoing process even at large companies, because having it as part of your docs or C/I pipeline doesn't mean a developer will understand or have empathy about

    mhussain,

@FreakyFwoof @jscholes sorry for reviveing a old thread, you can get the latest openshel releaces from github, https://github.com/Open-Shell/Open-Shell-Menu/releases or now, from ninite.com: https://ninite.com/openshell/ninite.exe the ninite file will update the app when it's updated. github has dev versions also I believe.
