A and AAAA records can have different IPs, the VPS will know it’s the host for your A and to forward AAAA to your home IP

I have just been round my small setup and run an OS update, took about an hour. That includes a reboot of a dedicated server with OVH.

a pi and mini PC at home, a dedi at OVH running 2 LXC and 5 qemu vms. All deb a mix of 11 and 12.

I spend Wednesday evenings checking what updates need installing, I get an email every week from newreleases.io with software updates and run Semaphore to check on OS updates.

Have you looked at ovh?

Have both a VPS and dedicated host

[SOLVED] Need some guidance with upgrading

Hi! I’m hoping for some guidance upgrading my instance. I’m still running on v0.17.3 because I ran into some issues upgrading to 0.18 and didn’t have time to really figure it out. Now that the current release is v0.19, I have people on my instance asking to upgrade and I don’t blame them. Can I simply point Docker...

I would move to 0.18 and then on to 0.19, how you get there will depend on how you setup in the first place. a look at your compose file would help

This is kind of how my setup looks, only without the DMZ. PFSense NAT to nginx lxc, terminates the SSL/TLS and then uses both my swam nodes as upstream for docker services. Docker services are behind traefik, each service is its own network in docker. If its a webby service you hit treafik not a port.

You just finished setting up all your services and it works fine - how do you now prepare for eventual drive failure?

I know that for data storage the best bet is a NAS and RAID1 or something in that vein, but what about all the docker containers you are running, carefully configured services on your rpi, installed *arr services on your PC, etc.?...

That sounds a lot like how I keep my stuff safe, I use backblaze for my off-site backup

On the flip side the B2 storage is great, it’s now even an S3 clone

I would use Shelly for relays, sonoff for sensors

If you have data else where on your server, you can use the options to volume to direct the mount there

driver: local driver_opts: type: none o: bind device: ‘/your/current/data’

Also reading the compose spec will help

How reliable is it to self host SimpleLogin, AnonAddy (addy), etc?

I have a private @gmail and a business @company.com (also via gmail), which I heavily rely on. Due to a recent data-leak somewhere, I'm now receiving unstoppable spam on my @gmail, and decided to set up a new account on proton and ditch @gmsil in favor of @example.com. I came across SimpleLogin, and thought that I could use...

If your self hosting your outgoing mail, remember to setup DKIM, SFP AND DMARC.

With all that setup, you should be fine

Added to the description, will remember that for next time

Remember to back that up, and test the back at intervals to make sure they work

I use Lets encypt and OVH DNS for my certs, I can get a wildcard for mulit service nginx or a single cert for the places that need them. The other thing I want to look at is the Small Step CA, I use that for SSH certs

I run Nextcloud, its responsive and has all my stuff in it. Notes, Calendar, Contacts, Kanboard, Photos, RSS reader, others. You do need look at the setup, how many PHP processes are you running, how much memory does MySQL use.

My current setup is a a PHP vm, 6 cores and 8GB of memory and a MySQL vm that is 2 cores and 8GB memory. But I work for a SaaS provider and thats now we carve up our systems, a vm/instance for 1 job.

Without knowing why you need a local GitHub like tool is almost impossible to suggest, but I know Gogo’s can keep a remote in sync if you need. Also there is a python tool to backup your GitHub account and or organisation

Was going to recommend nextcloud, but you don’t want another service to host.

It might be worth a look at nextcloud, to see if it has other tools you use.
