anyone know how to fix the redis version check for sharkey, it doesn’t like the redict version number for some reason:

Oh right, how is Revolt doing these days?
Are people using it? Will it (please) kill Discord and banish it to the shadow realm already?

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@xian it probably won't, it's pretty janky in a bad way. Even simple things like being able to reconnect after losing internet connectivity (e.g after waking your computer from sleep) is hit or miss

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@xian I really do want a viable discord competitor, but I've not seen anything come close to that

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@dwarf @xian brb fighting with znc

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@dwarf @ezio @xian I mean I guess i could set it up on one of my vpses, or make another wireguard tunnel to home

idk I don't think I've had much of anyone who I talk to on IRC these days

mikoto,

finally for the first time in history, the admin of akko.wtf is actually (an) akko

@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

kinda wish everyone would just stick to a single key/key combo to enter the bios/UEFI settings

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@hj @lanodan OEM systems tend to be the ones that use F12/F2/etc.

regualr atx mobos tend to use DEL

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@xian @lanodan @hj I think I've seen ASUS, AsRock and MSI use DEL at least, dunno about gigabyte

though my sample size is limited (only 3) so idk maybe they use different key combos for other stuff

why is Easter holidays so early nowadays

Reiddragon, to random

I’mma be real, I never understood this war on garbace collection when every sufficiently complex program ends up garbage collecring anyway, whether at a language level or at the application level

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@Reiddragon really depends on how you define garbage collection, generally refcounting is viewed better than tracing gc from what I've seen

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@Reiddragon I personally don't think either way is bad though, they have their usecases

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@Reiddragon I think it's because of older gc implementations having undesirable downsides like pausing and people still seeing that as being intrinsic to GCs (while they really aren't an issue these days).

The repeated outages cost me VALUABLE USERS, PEOPLE I CARED ABOUT A LOT. I don't blame them one bit for leaving, it was intolerable even to me, that's why I'm doing a mercy killing now.

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@tk @Moon it's been on hold for now as I'm focused on school right now

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@tk @Moon db rot in pleroma is such a pain to deal with honestly, it's something that basically needs a lot of fast storage which is pretty costly when you get large

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@tk @Moon I've heard misskey can scale to multiple nodes pretty well

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@Moon @tk really comes down to the architecture, a good programming runtime can't save from bad design decisions

mikoto,
@mikoto@akko.wtf avatar

@Moon @tk understandable
