I have mixed feelings about google forcing av1 on the youtube mobile app

On the one hand, av1 is more efficient in terms of bitrate which is nice with more limited connections. Also, open royalty-free format and whatnot.

But at the same time, AV1 hardware decode has only been a thing in the last few years and only since late last year does every SOC and GPU vendor have that capability. Which means most people with older devices will have to do decoding in software, which means higher energy usage.

the main downside of android phones being stuck on older kernel versions is that driver updates don't make it to said phones like for example fixing the low output of apple usb c dacs

    also replaced the ssd with a spare 2tb drive I had on hand.

    interstingly the ssd it came with is a kingston NV2 which I doubt is the original ssd (which makes sense from a data security standpoint)
