mononomi,

Use my laptop for everything, need it a lot at uni and it’s beefy enough for desk tasks. Don’t game anyways so I never hit a heavy load.

mononomi,

Dat is wel een heel groot verschil 🤨

mononomi,

Alright if so why are you displaying this for everyone to see on lemmy

mononomi,

You should listen to your medical professional.

Also, I think schizophrenia often comes with paranoia so it would make sense for you to distrust anyone including your psychiatrist.

Sharpest view ever of the Andromeda galaxy (www.spacetelescope.org)

This zoomable picture of the Andromeda galaxy has insane detail. It really impressed me with the crazy amount of stars visible once you fully zoom in. And that is just a small section of one galaxy! Made me realise how unfathomable the total amount of stars in the universe really is

mononomi,

Gamergate derives from the Greek words γάμος (gámos) and ἐργάτης (ergátēs) and means ‘married worker’.

Ahh yeah that’s what I thought of

mononomi,

En dus ook niet je stempas vergeten!

Why is lemmy so popular in the Netherlands? Dutch

Been poking around All recently and I’ve noticed that there is more lemmy activity in Dutch than any other non-English language. German following that, and then Portuguese (I think, maybe Spanish). I see more Nederlander posts than even the UK instances. So what’s up with this? Cheers from Canada 😙

mononomi,

Oh interesting, I didn’t know you could view the origin. Tbh wondering where the activity is coming from, because all activity in Dutch I see is pretty low. Maybe some bots? Or do you mean that a lot of traffic originates from the Netherlands?

mononomi,

Get the answer to any question seems like it would make me the next Einstein. Or the answer would be 42.

mononomi,

Do you edit the weird stripes like the one in E of elf yourself? I’ve seen multiple of those now.

mononomi,

Love raccoon memes but turned off by all the people using them as weird pets

mononomi,

I know otters blow bubbles into their fur to isolate themselves, but this also makes them extra buoyant. For the babies this is quite handy (less drowning etc) but for adults idk if it really helps.

It really depends on the fur texture probably, seals are also coated in fur but streamlined to perfection.

mononomi,

Can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not

mononomi,
mononomi,

The atmosphere sure changed a lot because of life, which might have had its effects on incoming solar radiation? Which might have changed the temperatures of some ocean currents/continental plates? I don’t think it would differ significantly

mononomi,

Can you know the peak beforehand? And if so, how can I look it up? 😁

mononomi,

I’d guess no, the number of digits and limbs is conserved very well across tetrapods (it’s in their name after all). Fucking with the amount of limbs will probably lead to some developmental errors in the early embryo.

mononomi,

I recently had a course in developmental biology and this is what I can remember the best:

From the moment of fertilization, the egg has a ‘polarity’, thus a direction like up and down, left and right etc. This can be established by e.g. the entry point of the sperm or protein produced by the mother in one side of the egg. From here on out protein gradients and interactions on cell membranes specify where cells are and thus what kind of tissue they should become

This early polarity leads to a certain pattern of cell division. An important part of this is the folding in of tissue layers called gastrulation, creating the beginning for the gastrointestinal tract.

In vertebrates a streak starts to form in the embryo. This is the start of the vertebrae and the neural tube in it. Also blocks of cells called somites start to form. These blocks are very important for all kinds of tissues in the body.

Hox genes make the cells in somites get an identity like head, arm etc. So in the end Hox genes are probably what you are looking for. If leg Hox genes are expressed where fruitfly normally have antennae, you get this horror:

Fruitfly with legs instead of antennae
