I already know ,it just that i always wondered why the others don’t have it

mr_right,
@mr_right@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

it’s a continous arms race between them and the websites

i thought of that too but youtube-dl and yt-dlp still exists in most repos

jdownloader has a self updating function

maybe i mean the program is written in fucking java, i don’t know of any other mainstream program that uses java outside of minecraft.

mr_right,
@mr_right@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I think it’s just not that popular

i don’t think so there are far more less mainstream and ancient programs in the repos

It is available in AUR, though

the AUR is “Arch User Repository” witch is community maintained repo …so i don’t think that counts.

Jetbrains

well i meant software that even non developers uses

mr_right,

if that’s the case then that’s explains it

but its a bit misleading to call it FOSS tbh

Yes i agree, those who love tinkering and computers and care about thier privacy will find thier way to us. Just like birds that immigrate in autumn.

I know i did, it was around 4 to 5 years ago when i needed a programme that only runs in w10. It was the first time i tried to install an operating system ever ( i can say i wasn’t Nearly as tech savy as I am now,but i defently always loved computers) then during installation i somehow dicided to read the EULA and i came to know that w10 is more privacy invasive than an old lady who doesn’t have anything to do.

I used Wifislax before and i said “if i can use it to browse the internet then i dont care my privacy worth more” and then i remembred that my friend installed ubuntu before on his computer,so i searched ubuntu (around the time when the linux mint snap contreversy started) and now here i am a fully fledged linux user

I like it here on Lemme. I feel pretty comfy. And most of you here are tech savvy. And if not, at least you have some level of basic true understanding of how technology works., Unlike those impostor syndrome redditors. And I suppose it’s a plus that corporations don’t hunt us down for discussing piracy.

If you are using chrome, ditch it and use something like braver or firefox.

We are already in 2024, which means that Chrome probably does not support manifest-V2 anymore. (What an unexpected turn of events)

I would like to hear more about those conversion kits and what are they reused for.

Dual Booting: How in god's name?!

I have one drive, 1tb with Pop_OS, and another, 500 on to which i want to install windows. (I know, I dont like it either but I want to play VR games via link cable cause ALVR is really mid) So, I put the ISO on a drive with ventoy, booted it up, got it all going. started to install windows on the empty drive. So, after the five...

There is a niffty Boot manager called Refined. This is what I use even though I installed Windows after Linux and had many kernel panics, but it does the job well since it scans your boot drive every time you Power on your machine. Here is a link. Just download the CD-ROM version, put it in ventoy, boot from it, and the rest is easy. You already are a linux user, you can figure it out.

I also advise you to disable Windows updates if you can, and I mean all updates, because they can mess the boot order. If you use Windows to play games and games only.

Edit: You can also install it from your distro package manager if you can access your system.

Legality is not an issue here. We are not exactly respecting copyright law anyway.

i’m guessing that whoever leaked the source code didn’t include the assets cause you can easily extract them directly from the game.

mr_right,
@mr_right@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Most of that size is assets rather than programme code

mr_right,
@mr_right@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

lol, i think we can agree that 4+ GB of pure letters are not by any means small

interesting, that’s actually a reasonable theory

Pirated video games SOURCE CODE

So there are multiple sites&groups that pirate video games especially on PC. I was wondering if there are places on the internet where you find source code for games especially the highly modifiable ones like Half Life 2/Portal and Skyrim. Or groups that crack into the source code of games (or even software in general), not only...
