thanks you very much! :-D
it seems only pictures made with my Pixel 7 Pro are affected, yes.
at the moment I can't say what exactly is causing it. as a next step I'll try to remove all the unnecessary meta/exif data manually and check if that makes a difference. else I'm kinda out of ideas.
if you need any more information or test data, just tell me :-)
edit: ok, I've tried now with a picture, where I cleaned all the meta data with exiftool. and it also doesn't show up. https://sopuli.xyz/post/640459
I'll attach the picture link to the post body, dir further tests
edit 2: loading the image URL, I got an error that something didn't work with the request. but like a complete idiot, I refreshed before copying the error message and now the error doesn't show up again
it seems that the file size is the issue. I'm having a new Pixel 7 Pro. posting those pictures directly, they won't show in the post header, but just in the body or comments - if inserted there.
I tried now with scrambled exif data and with a downloaded larger picture. and it seems, that the file size is the culprit. either there is a limit somewhere or a timeout gets triggered... I can't really tell...
edit: nope, large picture just took more time and shows correctly. must be something with the Pixel 7 Pro
I linked it again on purpose to check, if it's only in the image post header (it whatever this is called) or if this problem happens everywhere and something else is going on
Im joining in on the reddit ditching thing, and was kinda worried at first that i wouldnt be able to like use it the way i did reddit as it feels like a whole new place, but after engaging with posts and people and actually being a part of lemmy rather than being lurk mode all the time i was pleasantly surprised with how easy it...
well, everyone has to get comfortable first and had questions. also now with many more people, much more bugs show up.
there are some communities to report those issues to (like jerboa@lemmy.ml ) or you can probably use github to report an issue.
but maybe we should build up a New Lemmings community for those kind of questions, with a guide and FAQ. also those questions wouldn't spill over as much in other communities.
You're probably right, that this has a big potential to be annoying. but I also understand people with questions.
as currently Reddit is taking a dive and many people are newly discovering Lemmy, it's currently also a topic of major interest.
I think it's good for the project, when new ideas come up and people start to contribute more - be it content, code, documentation or moderation
it still has quite some bugs, but yeah, the base is already quite solid and I can use it without much restrictions
I'm really optimistic for the future of Lemmy and the Fediverse in general. maybe I'm just wish-thinking here, but I feel so much more at home on the internet again since I discovered Lemmy, Gemini, Marginalia,...
I feel like being back in the internet of my youth again. I just love it :-)
ok, I do understand how different lemmy/kbin instances can communicate, but I always thought, that different applications (like Mastadon or some micro blogging stuff) has their own federated network.
they are all interconnected? Oo
out of curiosity, how (with which other federated service) do you access Lemmy content on another service?
edit: someone down already posted this overview https://axbom.com/fediverse/
I'm still not entirely sure how all is connected and works together.
i think, I have to read up. if anyone has some further links to read into, I'd be very happy :-)
I've dabbled with Linux over the years, first with Ubuntu in the early 2010s, then Elementary OS when that dropped, and a few years ago I really enjoyed how customizable the gui was with Xubuntu. I was able to make it look just like WIndows 2000 which was really cool....
I'm currently quite happy with i3, but would really like to check out Wayland.
currently the support for barrier/synergy (controlling multiple computers with one keyboard/mouse) seems to be not there - although I saw something about a workaround with the newest synergy version.
would you be so kind to give me some other reasons to hold back?
Anything else that sucks in the new world?
How important are reddit-style flairs for people? There's the raised issue https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/317 which has it listed as a far-future, with questions as far as how to handle federation....
Well, whew! As a result of Reddit's recent spark of genius, the number of users looking for a new home has been growing at quite a brisk pace. In the last 12 hours, over 30 new membership applications were received. This has never happened before in Sopuli's short history. It's a bit like what happened to Mastodon when Twitter...
AFAIK there are some plans/considerations, at least for some of the 3rd apps, to migrate to/support Lemmy. so maybe in the near future you can have Boost for Lemmy - at least one can dream...
although, I must say, Jerboa is a bit buggy in some parts and could use some mir features, but I think, it already has a very good and useable base
Image Post with large File (sopuli.xyz)
as changing the exif data didn't help, I try to find a upper size limit of the file
Image Post Test with scrambled EXIF (sopuli.xyz)
shared the image through 'Scrambled EXIF'...
another image post test (sopuli.xyz)
seems pictures from my Pixel 7 Pro don't show correctly on the post header (only works in the body)...
Image Post Test (sopuli.xyz)
testing if image gets loaded correctly
Image Posts not working (sopuli.xyz)
hi all!...
Office Guardian (sopuli.xyz)
I'm more or less just posting again to check, if the image shows up this time. but enjoy another picture of Loki :-)
Image Post not working?
Hi all!...
Loki in cuddle mode (sopuli.xyz)
As the image isn't loaded correctly in the preview/thumbnail, I'll at least put it here in the body...

I'm truly not sure what to say... This is a big deal I think.
Which distro has the best GUI in your opinion?
