As a New York City native, currently living in New Jersey, I should really visit the Statue of Liberty at some point in my life ...

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@ddlyh honestly, it took me until I started traveling in my 20s to realize that most cities don't have one of the de facto capitals of the world in its backyard ....

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@sayartyler its more "if New York is the World's Capital, then New Jersey is the World's Toxic Waste Dump".

It's also where the light at the end of the tunnel leads.

We proudly host more federal superfund sites per capita than any other place in the country by a wide margin.

As for me, I'm the child of third generation Italians, and a Cuban exile who was born in the United States.

Half of my culture got embargoed, and the other half has faded into English :/

@akiran_n TBH, a lot of is that the Statue of LIberty was closed to tourists for many years after 9/11.

Since then, I"ve largely lost my tolerance for queuing in lines to see attractions, but I feel like this is one of those things I probably should do just to tick it off the list.

I think the next step is to build the OpenBSD kernel singleprocessing and see if the gprof output gives more clues.

It's spending a lot of time dealing with VM related stuff, but after staring at the code for awhile, nothing is jumping out. Single core performance was a lot better though whcih makes me suspect this is a SMP issue.

Reading through gprof's manual, and reading OpenBSD source code to understand why its spinlocking.

If nothing else, it's helping getting the rust off on low level system programming.

Today was a very miserable day of adulting. I'm going to unwind for awhile, and then probably poke the OpenBSD kernel with a stick afterwards ...

TIL I learned you need to enable hyperthreading on OpenBSD by hand.

I get the security risk, but man, it would have helped to figure out why it was much slower than expected.

I wonder if the problem on MBP was due to the same factor.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@onekopaka Well I saw that it was doing the same TOP behavior only showing half the processors, which didn't quite register as why it was weird. But that's why I want to profile it

My OpenBSD maker is ready for the next stream.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

I'm confirming I can infact build OpenBSD normally before doing anything else.

Cause cross-compiling is def. not supported by the devs, but I'm not sitting through what I suspect will be a full day or more to compile on the MBP.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

Well typing "make" was not enough to build.

At least I got the video finished this week \o/

@purple Its a still, but its actually better supported than I would think.

I actually remember using archie back in the day, great to see its been found and preserved: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUwR9xdEuZI

Well, I got the current script fully edited and such. Going to do a render, and then hopefully do the conclusions and everything tomorrow.

Might actually have this done by tomorrow.

Would my video count as adversing as far as the four clause BSD license is concerned ...

Cause you know ... this is one of the reasons why people had problems with early BSD and the four clause license

I realistically wonder what it would take to get unixbench or similar running on OpenBSD/arm64 ...

Waking up with your car surrounded in traffic cones is a great way to start the day.

ncommander,
@ncommander@restless.systems avatar

@sayartyler No ticket. I think the house I parked in front of was upset and put the cones around it to get me to move.

It's a legal spot, but you know, I don't want my car fucked with, and I found somewhere else to park.
