@major and like in those other hype cycles, it’s so important to find the people actually doing the work to bring something new into the world. So much noise from others who are simply standing near the people doing the work.

@mattb @xahteiwi after moving away from where I grew up, I learned that pen/pin and get/git had different pronunciations. I still struggle with saying them distinctly from each other

@xahteiwi @mattb oh I get it! I’ve been saying them myself to see if I pronounce them differently. I think so, but not in a huge way. Maybe it’s because I took French in school?

A screw-up happened. The screw-up is ultimately due to a crucial piece of information not being relayed to the right person. Multiple levels of seniority were in the loop, all of whom could have caught the omission, but nobody did. Who bears responsibility for the screw-up?

A — Everyone, jointly.
B — The most senior person involved.
C — The person who would have normally been "most likely" to catch the omission.
D — Someone else. (You pledge to add a comment who that would be)

@xahteiwi at NVIDIA, we have the concept of a "PIC" (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilot_in_command) for every project. That is the person who is responsible and accountable for the delivery of the project. Doesn't mean they are the one doing all the work, but they need to ensure it gets done.

@ben I love how each family ends up having its own vocabulary, invented by its own kids. When my oldest was learning to talk, he started saying “ifthen” when describing the next thing he was going to do. As a dev, I thought it was adorable (and although he’s taking a CS class in high school now, it didn’t foreshadow him becoming a dev himself).

So yes! Let’s boop all the things! Be playful! Embrace the weird world the way our kids a learning it! Ifthen we’ll have more joy

@ben depends a little on how much it costs you to get them. From a financial planning perspective, weight them at zero until there is some liquidity. But if you’re choosing more options in lieu of base comp, then they’re a lottery ticket you’re paying for. Up to the individual to figure out if they’re worth the cost at that point.
