yeah but the CD keeps being backwards compatible with DVD players, then Blu-ray, then UHD Blu-ray… these new 125tb discs are the same form factor again. i think we’ll have CD players way longer than tape decks

Could you drink distilled water with a mineral pill

Drinking pure H2O isn’t good for you. As far as I know it could even be deadly. But what if you had a pill with all the minerals usually dissolved in water and washed it down with a nice big glass of distilled water? Would it be more or less the same as drinking tap water? Or would you need more time to dissolve the minerals?...

there’s no data that says drinking distilled water is bad for you. if half of a grain of salt would make that water no longer distilled, the leftover minerals in your mouth from the last thing you ate are going to make it no longer distilled

I had the last generation iPod nano, and none of the clip-on cases I could find would put it upside down like the way I preferred my phone so I cut it with an exacto knife to reverse it

Is there a lemmy community, for example, where people discuss shopping strategies which minimize the risk of the purchase decision being influenced by Brand Image or Flashy Packaging? English kings would strip the lead from church rooves to make their trebuchets. nothing has changed (a great many of these bells in many countries were probably donated; patriotism and religion go hand in hand. not sure how it went with the Nazis though)

maybe it’s more, women feel like they have to give hints because being direct can receive judgment or not be safe. so it’s not that they’re bad at hinting it’s just that they have to use hints a lot more often than we do, and I can’t pick up a hint to save my life

there was some movie I read about where the actor had a heart attack walking through a doorway while filming, and the second half of the scene was shot much later after his recovery so he looks like he ages 10 years and loses 20 lbs as he walked through the door in the movie. can’t remember what film
