BonesOfTheMoon,

I really like Somebody Somewhere, it’s hard to describe but it’s basically two middle aged people finding their way through life in Kansas. I also LOVE Reservation Dogs.

Corkyskog,

The local channel has like 8 hrs of continous bird feeder, then a half hour of student news, and an hour of polka dancing on average every day.

Those old people sure can dance, but I don’t think any of them are particularly sexy.

Joe Pera Talks With You

How To with John Wilson

Sadly both shows ended in the last few years, but I think these are better than the similar Ted Lasso. Ted Lasso for introverts, maybe.

Etterra,

You could always watch Sesame Street.

dan1101,

Parks and Rec

Derry Girls

Roadkill (car show on HBO)

Great British Bakeoff or whatever it’s called

Elaine,

This is how I wound up watching Asian fantasy series on Netflix.

There’s virtually no sex or violence in Ms. Rachel, which is about the only show that hits my TV by request of my toddler.

thr0w4w4y2,

i’m quite into:

  • competitive cooking shows where the chefs are regular folks who have real personalities (example: netflix barbecue showdown)
  • shows where people restore rusty cars and then try and sell them, often focusing on the economics of running a garage and the things that can go wrong when buying ancient vehicles. (example rust valley restorers)
snapoff,

Rust Valley Restorers is so good. I was upset when I ran out of episodes to watch. More problems than a hippopotamus!

thr0w4w4y2,

there’s like 3-4 more of the same show just with different characters, rust to riches, another one about the mexican border etc etc

snapoff,

Yeah, I’ve seen most of them, but Mike and Avery were my favorite by a long shot. I also enjoyed the show Fastest Car where they race one super car vs several sleepers out in the desert. I’m not even really a car-person, but I sure get sucked into modding and restoration tv. Rust to riches was my entry point!

Sesame Street is still going.

Nemo,

Bluey is great

BadNewsNobody,

There’s no sex in your violence

zabadoh,

If you like anime, this season there’s the 3rd season of Yuru Camp/Comfy Camp about cute girls going camping.

Also in prior seasons there was Yama No Susume/Encouragement of Climb, pretty much the same show except it’s about hiking.

luthis,

Not sure if this would be categorised under ‘violence’ but the mini series Chernobyl is freakin excellent. It’s PvE, no sex, no human vs human violence (AFAIK). If you haven’t seen that, I would recommend it 110%. There’s a real sense of comradery, as multiple nations contribute to help contain the disaster, but it’s also tragic. The series also depicts the event as less bad than it actually was in some respects.

FrostyCaveman,

Chernobyl is a fantastic miniseries, really great

Despite not having sex nor violence, it’s still pretty harrowing to watch, though

safesyrup,

Can 110% agree. It is pretty much a documentary of the chernobyl disaster in the form of a mini-series. I have watched it 3 times, it‘s that great

sun_is_ra,

Yaa lucky there is a family guy

this is why I made this post but people out here actually giving recs 😨😭

Immersive_Matthew,

Sounds like the algorithm has you in a box or sex and violence. We all get put in these boxes if you watch even one violent/sex video as the algorithm knows sex and violence gets engagement. You have to watch, like, comments whatever you can to engage with content you prefer to slowly change the feed. Even then, you will be tantalized with that sort of content from time to time as it tends to be what engages most. Resist and if possible tell it to stop showing content like that.

TheOctonaut,

Sounds like the algorithm has you in a box

Who are you responding to?

zabadoh,

They’re responding to the OP, who will get a copy of of all base-level comments in their inbox, just like this comment is landing in yours.

TheOctonaut,

The OP asked about TV… this guy was pretty clearly talking about YouTube ‘videos’.

zabadoh,

Depends on how one watches TV…

Most people have cut the cable cord, don’t watch broadcast TV, and a lot have gone to paid streaming, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, etc.

All those streaming services have recommendation algorithms to suggest shows that the viewer might be interested in, and keep them hooked on that service.

Sex and violence certainly grab attention quickly, so algorithms push those more than anything else.

  • Our Flag Means Death
  • The Totally Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin
  • Decline and Fall
  • The Gentlemen (the series, not the film)

That should keep you busy for a while

Edit - How could someone downvote Our Flag Means Death?!?!? :(

YungOnions,

The Gentlemen is a great series
