@steven The general sentiment is fine, and I mostly agree, but I have some... notes... about the details.

For one:

> Since OpenBSD and FreeBSD
> grew out of Unix, they are binary
> compatible,but their kernels

@mattgodbolt I wish you the very best of luck in trying to recapture the rights to your own name from the annals of compiler history.

Finding SQL syntax instead of map() or filter() is the kind of shenanigans I expect from PHP not C# but here we are

penryu,
@penryu@hachyderm.io avatar

@wreimers Or Python! (a la comprehensions)

Is this about LINQ? Or have they dome something worse now?

penryu,
@penryu@hachyderm.io avatar

@wreimers Yeah, and in this case, real SQL is a lot more efficient than LINQ... in any form — the fancy syntax or the defancified extension method form.

peeps - to iterm2 did a LLM thing in their terminal emulator. i just uninstalled it from my system, anyone able to recommend a lightweight replacement to the default macOS terminal.app?

penryu,
@penryu@hachyderm.io avatar

@pete_wright I switched from iTerm2 to kitty a while back. Not as GUI-friendly as iTerm, but was able to unify configs across the 4 OSes.

Looked at alacritty a while back, but stability wasn't great at the time. It's in the queue to revisit soon.

@evan If international law is something that all nations have agreed to honor, then all nations should honor it. Otherwise it begins to resemble imperialism.

Another day, another problem caused by OS vendors half-applying updates without permission. I am seriously disgusted with my former colleagues.

penryu,
@penryu@hachyderm.io avatar

@Obdurodon I must follow different feeds. What happened?

penryu,
@penryu@hachyderm.io avatar

@Obdurodon Ah, thanks for the info. I've seen occasional issues of that sort on macOS. Much less on Linux, simply because I usually run them headless.

No shame in Chromebooks. I started running MacBooks for work some time ago and have stuck with them mostly out of habit.

That said, I've had such good luck with Asahi on Apple M-series CPUs, I've only had to reboot into macOS for the occasional piece of software that hasn't been bothered to support Linux/aarch64... YET!
