Much of the culture war is simply that a large number of Americans still think it's morally acceptable to be bigoted against gay or trans people. If you changed "LGBTQ characters" in that first paragraph to "black characters" or "Jewish characters," the conversation about these parents would look dramatically different. But it's not clear why we should socially treat being anti-gay different from being anti-black or antisemitic.

We don't have to imagine. They did this to Black people first. "Hair Love" is already on the list of banned books. It's "divisive" and "anti-white" because it's about a Black dad doing his Black daughter's hair.

There are only ~40 million Black people in the US. Population similar to Lagos state in Nigeria (the tiny red part).

There are ~250 million US white folk (~220 non-Hispanic white + ~30 million Hispanic white).

So Biden's "missing" 10% of Black men, is fewer than 2 million. Or less than 1% of white US population.🀑

White voters don't face the massive systemic voter suppression that Black voters do. So increasing white dem turnout is much easier.

So if your boy doesn't win, blame yourselves.

I didn't say "read." I said "comprehend."

"Most of y'all know that most of your family will be voting for him."

Consider a group of 100 white people. Each person has a family of 100, for a total of 10,000 people. 6,000 of those people will vote for Trump. 4000 will vote for Biden. It is possible, (probable even!), that many of those families will have more Biden voters than Trump voters. But most will have more Trump voters than Biden voters.

You're really struggling with the word "most."

πŸ€¦πŸΏβ€β™‚οΈ At some point in this conversation, you'll figure out that you're exactly the kind of person I'm trying to off-put. Then you will put yourself off, and we will both be happier.

Look at the difference between how you're engaging with me, and how everyone else is, and then figure out the difference between the way I engage with them, and the way I engage with you.

You're coming in wrong, sideways, and indignant, and expecting kid gloves treatment. But it doesn't work that way.

And don't stop at calling me angry and confrontational, call me hostile and aggressive too!

Let's run the bingo board of white liberal grievances against Black people speaking truth and facts without sufficient deference to white people that don't know what they're talking about.

Say "I agree with your goals, but not your tactics!" and "You're only hurting your allies!" so that we can make the bingo board complete! πŸ‘πŸΏ

πŸ€·πŸΏβ€β™‚οΈ I don't care how many math classes you've taken. They didn't work. You're getting mad because you're failing to understand the math that shows that what I said is absolutely correct.

I have no intention of making you feel better about the fact that the combination of your failure to comprehend, and your fragility, made you feel attacked by what I said.

Again, find a person that both cares (I don't), and is better at reading comprehension and mathematics, to explain this to you.

Sorry, I want to be completely sure that we're talking about the same numbers.

Can you show me which source you're referencing on the "close to 50%?" There are several slightly different polls.

mekkaokereke,
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io avatar

@Pineywoozle

Stop dodging, and cite an actual poll.

You're in my mentions sideways, being all pedantic, because more white women voted for Trump than for Biden. I'd like to see the poll that makes you believe otherwise.

I'm also explicitly saying that the statistical BS, is pretending that anyone cares who voted for Joe Jorgenson or Howie Hawkins. No one cares.

The choices were Biden or Trump, and more white women chose Trump than Biden. In 2016, and in 2020.

Say something about Biden's criminal justice stance, and what you intend to do about that between now and November.

Because if the answer is "Nothing. I intend to do nothing." then we'll all be holding hands, and saying "I love everybody!" as we descend into fascism.

mekkaokereke,
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io avatar

@Pineywoozle

🀑 According to the poll that you just cited... 53% of white women voted for Trump in 2020, vs only 46% of white women who voted for Biden. The poll you cited highlights that Trump made gains among white women over 2016, and even has a majority of white women voting for Trump. Or is 53% now less than half somehow?

https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2021/06/30/behind-bidens-2020-victory/

And my point is that even if it's 49% (which it's very much not), that's still more than 46%.

So... what are you even talking about here?

mekkaokereke,
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io avatar

@Pineywoozle

🀑 LOL! No! Don't be pedantic one way, and then fudge the other way. You want to get pedantic, let's get pedantic!

This is what you said: "Words matter and saying most is the sleight of hand not stating actual numbers."

I said most. Most means "51% to 99%." The percentage is 53%. So what are you even talking about?

I mean, if you're going to be pedantic, at least be correct?

Otherwise you're just wasting my time being wrong and annoying in my mentions.

mekkaokereke,
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io avatar

@Pineywoozle

I was even willing to concede on the 2016 numbers, that the percentage was less than 50% due to 3rd party candidates, but that was a BS stats trick to obscure the fact that more white women voted for Trump than for Biden.

I'm done with this conversation.

mekkaokereke,
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io avatar

@Pineywoozle

🀑No! If we're going to get pedantic, let's get pedantic! I'm going to the dictionary!

And even if we don't go to the dictionary, you're talking about common usage of the word, Again this is the same thing as the questions around the word "delve," and is it commonly used.

Most people that speak english, live in Africa or Asia, not Europe. So how it is most commonly used and the dictionary definition both mean 51% to 99%.

You are wrong again.

mekkaokereke,
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io avatar

@Pineywoozle

SAT question:

"53% of white women voted for Trump. 46% voted for Biden. Who did most white women vote for?"

A) Trump
B) Biden
C) Neither
D) I want to keep being weird in Black people's mentions on the internet, so I'm going to make up a weird definition of the word "most," just for this question!🀑

I hear you on the encouragement thing, but no. Not for me.

I'm not here to encourage any white person to vote. If at this point you don't want to vote, I'm not here to cheerlead for you.

And if you have racist family members, I'm not here to tiptoe around that so you feel good about yourself. It's not an insult to point it out. Those of you with racist family members, know that you have racist family members.

On the "convert" or "turnout" question, that one's easy. Turnout, 100%.

mekkaokereke,
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io avatar

@Judmarc

I donate to Debra Cleaver and she does voter turnout, at scale, in a race blind, gender blind, political party blind way. That results in a net shift towards Dems, because if we have 100% turnout Dems win.

But Debra doesn't target and say "White people that aren't fascists should vote more than white people that are fascists." That's not her role. She registers everyone.

The job of encouraging white folk who aren't fascists to turnout more than those who are? Should be on community.

No. Black people have been "voting for the greater good" for the past 80 years. 80 years! And we're still doing it! And we're already at ~90%. We did our work. Now go do yours. Leave us alone.

As I've said, 80% is what you're getting from Black men. 85% if we're feeling generous.

Is Trump ahead in the polls, because Biden is losing support amongst one of his key demographics: Black men? Or are the polls all a lie?

Trump ahead in polls?

Biden camp doesn't believe the polls?

Either way, the most important thing to do, is to ignore, insult, argue with, and generally disrespect, Black men online! 🀑 Find a Black man, and yell "Trump is worse!" in his face as hard as you can! Swear at him, and threaten him with violence!

People often talk about "historical" injustices and genocide in the US. It's not history. It's now.

When you look at this chart showing that the most common age of Black folk is 27 and the most common age for white folk is 58, know that the Black birth rate is higher than the white birthrate. What do you think happens to all those Black people? Not historically. I'm talking about today, in 2024? That's 10s of millions of people.

People genuinely expect Black people to look past their own mistreatment, to help them criticize China.

You frame my pointing out that the US treats Black people worse than Uyghurs on every dimension ( number directly executed in the streets by the state, number in slave labor camps, life expectancy, poverty rate, infant mortality rates, etc), as "downplaying?"

Nope. It doesn't work that way.
