If a tiling window manager has the concept of workspaces doesn’t that just make it a tabbed tiling window manager (ignoring i3 lets you switch to tab mode within a workspace that’d make i3 a tabbed tabbed window manager)

imagine the pure sensory overload of trying to arrange a desktop full of 3 dimensional objects you have to pick up and rotate in order to interact with programs

Tiling window managers exist tho they’re called shelves. Floating window managers exist it’s called pure unadulterated chaos like a kid’s toy chest. fuck I misplaced my torus shaped browser and there’s about a hundred objects how do I sort through this

But the concept of a tiling tiling window manager also exists now, how do you organize your shelves? If you want to organize your shelves to match the 3D space you have to tile them. Imagine a tiling^2 wm being like this, you have to use ur cursor to actually wind the mechanism and move them around

Tiling window managers were invented in XEROX PARC in late 1970s.
For the last 50 years we haven't come up with a new way of doing windows.

@icantcode on second thought I don’t quite like the concept of resizing window depth. My argument for this is that overlapping windows imply that we have 3D window managers, because it’s organized in 3D space, one on top of the other. We just don’t get finite control? We have to arrange them like that. But if we had a fourth dimensional window manager that implies the fourth dimension would become that finite control thing and we would have control over the third dimension. Blursed

I want Fibonacci style new windows but also the ability to just control the splits. I love tiling window managers and for me it would be a hell of a lot more intuitive than deck view
