I like immigration. I like not to have serious skills gaps in our services. I like mixing with people who grew up in other countries. I like being enriched by other cultures. I would like the feeling that my country opened its arms to people fleeing terrible situations elsewhere. I don’t understand why other people don’t think like this
@CatherineFlick@DrHyde This is absolutely true. They had a huge problem with polish people even though they were white, I think some of that was a perceived unwillingness to integrate? Lots of polish shops, hairdressers and restaurants sprang up in London
@bleakfuture In the UK they complained about white immigrants a LOT, and that’s what led to Brexit. There was a particular hoo hah about Polish people. So it’s not racism pure and simple, it’s also a more generalised xenophobia
Tom asked me if I want to watch the Sunak/Starmer debate with him. I thought about it, and then I thought about my mental health my tendency towards insomnia, and I decided I am better off sticking to my journaling/reading/meditation late evening routine
Keep seeing Nigel Farage and milkshake on my TL from folks I follow in UK.
I'm from the US . Who is Nigel Farage? Why did he get milkshake thrown at him?
@Jaden3@PoliceStateUK Oh he’s a huge asshole! But racists love him because he goes around saying things like “Britain is broken”. It is, but not because of “foreigners” living here
@Jaden3@PoliceStateUK I’m voting Labour but I’m not happy about a lot of their policies. I will put up with that to try to get the Tories out but it is no longer the Labour Party as I knew it
@kimlockhartga@QueenOfCoffee I did some research for shoes to correct fit over-pronation and these came up and seemed a decent price, thoroughly happy with my purchase and would buy again. Small but pleasing point - the laces are too short to double now but it doesn’t matter, because they never, ever come undone!
