If I was Fetterman, it’d now be my personal pet peeve to subvert this dress code whenever I could by showing up in the most ridiculous-but-formally-correct outfits.

EU, Ursula’s secret text messages: what happens in the Commission, stays in the Commission (says the Commission) (12ft.io)

More than two decades since mobile phones have made texting ubiquitous, the European Union institutions struggle to square their transparency obligations with leader’s wishes to keep their direct exchanges confidential....

Privacy for me, client side scanning for thee.

What are some FOSS programs that you think are a far better user experience than their counterparts? (sh.itjust.works)

I used Plex for my home media for almost a year, then it stopped playing nice for reasons I gave up on diagnosing. While looking at alternatives, I found Jellyfin which is much more responsive, IMO, and the UI is much nicer as well....

Eh, I love FOSS as much as the next guy l, but I still gotta say that LibreOffice (as nice as it is) is still ages behind MS Office, and it’s not even close.

The main competitor for Inkscape would be Adobe Illustrator.

But the “corrupt/evil cop” archetype is a staple in the GTA franchise. Remember Tenpenny? Is this just rage bait for right-wingers again?

I was being hyperbolic. In the billions of people who inhabit this earth, I bet there’s like two or three who genuinely like it. But they are crazy, and their opinions are wrong.

This is really interesting. From your perspective, how risky/difficult is this to set up? I have rooted phones before, but I’m mostly a novice and until now have stayed away from stuff that requires me to solder or interact with circuitry. Seems like this is a common theme in the rooting guides.

This would likely end up hurting consumers more than RWE, because the “merit order” pricing system sets electricity prices depending on the production cost of the most expensive unit of electricity that is being consumed at a given time (usually coal). So raising the production cost of coal-based electricity sadly will also raise electricity prices, so long as renewables don’t take over a larger share of the market.

Looks nice, but if I could trade these visual gimmicks for a type-ahead feature, I would do so in a heartbeat.

Yes and no. The setting affects the file manager, but things like “open/save file” dialogues will still use the Gnome file chooser, which is separate from Nautilus and not easily circumvented.

The Fairphone 3 has a translucent case, and I will never understand why they didn’t stick with this design. It’s like childhood memories in phone form.

An additional part of the joke is that showing this through the area of a square is a geometric proof that this series converges the way it does.

The only acceptable use of “data is.”

Two things. First, the user didn’t ask for the suggestion (it popped up). Second, the contents of the suggestion are “sponsored” (paid for by an advertiser and not necessarily related to the user’s interest). User-friendly suggestions should be gathered in a single space that the user chooses to interact with (like a suggestions page) and contain only relevant information (uninfluenced by paid-for sponsorships).

GDPR would definitely prohibit transferring the ID data to third parties outside the EU. They could replace this mechanism with European ID verification services (via eID or video verification). But I can’t imagine many people would go through that hassle, just to keep using Twitter/X. Then again, this Elon man is a literal fountain of terrible ideas, so who knows at this point.
