The numerous cases of 4chan users providing “tech support” to children who don’t know any better.

Especially making a child put their parent’s laptop in the oven while throwing its battery in a bowl of salt water (which can short circuit the battery and cause it to catch fire btw).

So those people just throw away their IDs and expect to dodge all jurisdictions?

And when it inevitably fails they just ask for help on Facebook because where else.

Even as far back as the first release of iPhone OS, I believe

You’re right, I can’t quite believe they’ve only added it with iOS 7, though.

As a kid, I kinda had anger issues and would get frustrated easily. I broke the screen of my GBA SP by throwing it against a wall after not being able to solve a room in Mario vs. Donkey Kong. Similarly, I threw my iPod Touch on the floor after losing in a game called Bad Apples which broke the glass but the iPod itself still worked afterwards.

I really wish I still had that SP, as replacing the screen isn’t that hard. It even was a limited edition one as well…

Tidal is a great alternative in my opinion; they pay artists a much higher percentage per stream, you get more for the same money and their CEO isn’t a complete dickwad, I think.

It’s not so great for podcasts, though.

Red Lobster eyes bankruptcy option after $11M in losses from endless shrimp (abcnews.go.com)

“Last year, Red Lobster reported $11 million in operating losses following its flubbed ‘Ultimate Endless Shrimp’ deal, which backfired when it reeled in too many customers after the limited-time promo became a permanent menu fixture last June. The restaurant chain later reported $12.5 million in losses in the fourth...

That’s what they get for offering 30 shrimp for just $10.99 and fueling people’s addictions

Why can you even order alcohol on a commercial flight?

Edit: I don’t really know why I’m getting downvoted, it’s a genuine question. Smoking on planes was banned in the 90s, so why is drinking still allowed? It arguably affects people around you just as much.

FireWire400,
@FireWire400@lemmy.world avatar

Because it somehow seems like a huge safety hazard to have a bunch of drunk people doing drunk people stuff in a plane

It is valid, in my opinion, to assume a person wearing a band shirt to be a fan of that particular band and while I wouldn’t torture them with trivia questions I would at least expect them to give me a coherent answer to a question like “You like Led Zeppelin, eh?”.

I wear band shirts not only because I like that particular band but as a way for like-minded people to maybe start a conversation with me at social gatherings.

I agree, people focus too much on the gfx downgrade controversy.

Pokémon Channel may be one of the worst Pokémon games ever released; it’s annoying to play, incredibly tedious and teaches kids to watch more TV instead of less.

I really liked playing it as a child. The thing is, I can’t for the life of me remember why I even liked it that much.

Sharing polyphonic ringtones over infrared. Hell yeah, that was pretty awful.

The Dripping Tap by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. It’s Australian, sends a good message and most importantly, it’s an absolute jam.

It’s from 2022, though, so maybe a little too old.

What should I add to my '90s website?

So I'm currently toying around with NeoCities, and decided to trial it by building your classic mid '90s Geocities/Tripod/Angelfire pastiche website.

Some of the most important elements are already in place.

Tile background? Large font? Heading in bright pink with a shadow? Unusual colour choices? Random cat gifs? Under construction gif? Check! Check! Check!

In the true spirit of the '90s DIY web, some more pages (including the links page) are coming soon.

(I'm thinking of adding a page dedicated to either Britney or a nu-metal band.)

You can see the page so far here: https://that90ssite.neocities.org/

There are a few things that I want to add to make it complete, and I'm looking for suggestions.

The first, is to embed a midi file that plays automatically. Any suggestions on the best way of doing this?

Second, it's just not going to be complete without a guestbook.

Third, any webring suggestions?

Fourth, what's the best way of adding a java chat room in 2024?

Finally, anything else that really needs to be a part of a great '90s website?

UPDATE: Thanks for all the feedback! I've added more annoying GIFs, a guestbook, a links page, and a cyber cat hangout.

UPDATE 2: And added even more gifs, an amazing Amiga demo, and a ton of links.

Every 2-3 years I’d say. I kept my previous phone, a Samsung Galaxy A50, until its contract ran out and sold it afterwards (didn’t really like it that much tbh). I plan on using my Pixel 6 Pro for as long as possible, though.

I think it’s more accurate and less fatiguing than using the track pad. Scrolling especially feels way better, even compared to two-finger scrolling on a track pad.
