Anyone have an idea why my CSS transitions based on max-height will happily animate bigger, but won't shrink nicely?

A question on :

Does anyone check their sites with the device font size set to a stop or two larger or smaller than default?

As I'm pushing 40 and now wearing varifocals, I have put my smartphone's system font size up a level.

This seems to occasionally mess with website layouts, sometimes text wraps in unexpected ways, or is partially hidden.

Sometimes it happens only in app-embedded browsers, not the full mobile browser.

In case anyone isn't aware why Thomas is flouncing off:

He clearly needs a break. That wasn't cool.

When doing book reviews for O'Reilly, one option is to be paid in books! Here is part of my haul -

My goodness that CSS book is chonky, @estelle and @Meyerweb ! I knew it'd be big, hahahah, but at 1100 pages it truly has biblical proportions!

@deadparrot @addyosmani

The CSS book seen obliquely from the side showing how deep it is (just under 6cm or 2.5 inches).
One of my children reading about CSS (face obscured by huge book).

Has anyone taken their family to the Legoland Windsor (UK) resort hotel? Was it good? Worth it?

Have just introduced my oldest child to Calvin and Hobbes.

I grew up reading it (in Swedish) in Serie Paraden comic collection magazines, and even when I was little like he is (age 5) and clearly didn't understand a lot of what was being said by the philosophising boy and his (stuffed?) tiger, I still loved them.

His reading isn't up there yet but he's getting closer, and is enjoying looking at graphic novels we have floating around, so this feels like a good stepping stone.

Ugh. Felt like an idiot earlier today when I stubbed my toe, hard, and now hours later feeling sorry for myself too as the pain is now worse and it's turning purple. Yay. Hope I can find an appointment to get it seen to sooner rather than later...

It's this variance of accents/dialects just within the UK that always makes me question why people want to "lose" their accent when speaking English as a second language.

https://front-end.social/@sarajw/112138870060262029

I sort of get it - and I know people even within the UK sometimes work hard to lose their regional accent.

But, as someone with a nondescript home counties accent in my English (and similarly Stockholm in my Swedish), I sometimes wish I had a hint of something more interesting in the way I speak.

Does anyone working in Germany as a normal employee take a little cash on the side (legally) for stuff like giving talks, reviewing books, writing articles or other comparable stuff?

I'm happy in my job and want to keep it, but some little opportunities may come up where I could earn something, currently I'm opting out or doing it for free because of the whole tax thing.

I'm trying to figure out whether I can do a Nebenjob freiberuflich, or something. The whole system terrifies me, haha! Help?

Is 'blogroll' a pun on 'bogroll' (Brit slang for toilet paper)?

If I wanted an icon for a blogroll, would it be too crass to use a small picture of a roll of TP?

I would also have text next to it, to be clear hahah!

Is there such a thing? Or only through a subscription service?

I seem to have lost my Google-fu on this one - failing to find the right search terms:

When you play a - or a CD even - does it spin at the same speed the whole time, whether the is being read from closer to the outer edge or closer to the middle?

Assuming yes, is the better when the track is going past the needle/laser faster, as I guess you're getting more information from the track in a shorter time? Or do the record and CD somehow calibrate for this?

After my deep dive into early 90s female-led grunge/post-grunge/jangle indie/[add other genres here] yesterday, triggered by Breeders which featured the Deal sisters - please have a recommendation from me!

Alisha's Attic (sisters Shelly and Karen Poole) came later in 1996 - I don't know their second 1998 album at all, but I LOVED this one, "Alisha Rules the World":

Saw @accessabilly do this and I liked the idea:

Lived in: 🇸🇪 🇬🇧 🇩🇪
Born in: 🇸🇪

Grandparents: 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇸🇪 🇸🇪
Been to: 🇸🇪 🇩🇪 🇦🇹 🇦🇺 🇧🇪 🇧🇻 🇩🇰 🇬🇷 🇮🇲 🇰🇷 🇨🇳 🇨🇿 🇪🇸 🇫🇷 🇬🇮 🇮🇨 🇮🇪 🇮🇹 🇲🇦 🇲🇨 🇲🇾 🇳🇱 🇵🇱 🇵🇹 🇺🇸 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🇫🇯 🇨🇭

Well that was harder than I expected. I don't know a lot of flags even of places I've been 🫣 - and I bet I forgot somewhere. They're in no particular order.

This helped: https://emojipedia.org/flags/

Given the discourse floating around now I'm feeling much less bad about not using Firefox as my main browser.

I generally use Edge (I already use Windows and subscribe to 365 Family, better the devil you know and all that), but now I've just started toying with the DuckDuckGo browser on my phone...

I'm still totally to and fro on the ebike thing still, hahah!

What I do need to do is get out on my light and sporty bike again (I already have 2 bikes).

I need to remember what it's like to whizz around on it.

I stopped using it when I lived in the city centre, which was a very stop-start place to ride around, and actually very frustrating on a bike that makes you want to push forward, fast. An upright city bike suited the city better, funnily enough.

I should start cycle-commuting again.
