this is an interesting question i've had banging around in my mind since well before Reddit's implosion (and Discord's enshittification), but which seems really worth asking now....
Yes, there are basically no reasons to not move to USB-C. Up until this point, I have been saying that it is a matter of convenience. But it is also economical....
Yes, the accessories are a major pain in the butt. I've considered buying a magic trackpad but at this point don't want to accumulate another device with a lightning port.
If the reddit exodus happens and Lemmy gets even 2% of reddit's daily active users, how will Lemmy sustain the increased traffic? I know donations are an option, but I don't think long term donations will be sustainable. Most users will never donate....
It's this. I love the idea of running an instance and have considered it many times. But modding the thing is no joke. It's real work that needs to be taken seriously.
Everyone is so thrilled with llama.cpp, but I want to do GPU accelerated text generation and interactive writing. What's the state of the art here? Will KoboldAI now download LLaMA for me?
I've tried multiple Reddit apps in the past, from the official one to Boost to RiF, yet all of them used way more battery charge for the same amount of browsing I do on Jerboa....
First all the bs with Twitter and Elon, then Reddit having an exodus to Lemmy (not complaining lol), then Twitch. Are we like, in an alternate self healing dimension or something?
Yep, it's this. Despite how it seemed in the 2010s investor capital is not free money. Investors want it paid back many multiple times over and they'll risk destroying the underlying product if necessary.
I can't imagine walking around in public with something like this Apple headset on, let alone with the insane price tag... which means that people are definitely going to do it.
This game is such a roller coaster of emotions. Some of the most beautiful imagery I've ever seen in a video game. Genuinely awesome soundtrack (both the licensed music and original material)....
Before "good" search engines existed there was a sense of exploration hopping from weird site to weird site. Because there were no rules people would really put a piece of themselves into their websites. They would just be little virtual islands dedicated to one subject or another that the author found interesting.
Just joined, and well, I'm thinking ill stay. Ive been looking for a good reddit alternative for a while now. devs, you've done quite some good work here.
If anything the tankie mud slinging has had the opposite effect on me. The Lemmy devs seem pretty damn gracious and accepting of people that probably have more moderate political beliefs than themselves.
do you think older-style internet forums have a place in the future of the internet?

How do I get LLaMA going on a GPU?

Hello World
Hi, you've found this subreddit Community, welcome!...
Does anyone else find Jerboa to be incredibly energy efficient?

Seriously, what's up with big sites literally dying as we speak?

What's your favorite Web 1.0 memory?
Prior to the internet condensing into just 5 or so websites, what do you remember fondling about being online?...
