Have you noticed how often real articles now have photos that look like they're from a poorly written sci fi movie? What a strange time.

Internet interactions can be so exhausting. Some choice responses after I tried to answer a gamedev question on Discord:

"did you read any of my messages? Clearly not".

"And on top of that I didn't ask you. In fact I didn't even ask for help at all"

"I mean jesus christ if you don't have anything helpful to add don't try to help"

Like... 😔

seurimas,

@SirLich Well that's not fun!

I do wonder if how the 4% retention rate for Infosec.exchange accounts (over 6 months) compares to other social media platforms. I am guessing it’s really low due to the challenges we have.

seurimas,

@jerry It might be very average, actually.

"Retention rates across the social media app category are fairly close to the global average. They start at 26.3% for day one, dropping to 9.3% by day seven. Statista puts the day 30 average at 3.9%, while AppsFlyer quotes 3.11%."

I forgot about the Babylon Bee. They are awesome. I mean, they don’t have trillions of readers like the Onion, but still pretty good

seurimas,

@jerry @compuguy One headline is "Pedophile Jailed For Flashing Kids At Playground Kicking Himself For Not Doing It At Pride Parade Instead", which seems sufficiently incendiary to be a homophobic message and not just bad comedy.

seurimas,

@jerry @compuguy Sadly, I think the kinds of right wingers who make satire just got more crazy, as fast as the rest of them. I also remember some cutting but not-disgusting commentary from them in the past.

Y’all: I have been wrestling with kbin on the fedia.io instance, but I want to take a step back and give some perspective. Kbin is new, it’s growing crazy fast, and it really wasn’t in a place to support the migration from Reddit. Despite that, @ernest has been working his tail off knocking down issues and helpings instance admins.

Reddit certainly seems to be tripling down on their position and I think kbin is shaping up to be a worthy alternative. If you like kbin (on whatever instance you use it on) and want to see it grow, may I ask that you throw some money Ernest’s way? (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kbin)

I want to publicly thank Ernest for kbin and for his contributions to our growing fediverse community.

/back to whatever you were doing.

seurimas,

@jerry @ernest Supported! Good call out!

oh my God what is wrong with people this is unacceptable

seurimas,

@codinghorror Clearly it's feint praise, because it falls over in a stiff wind

Just used FediBuzz ( https://relay.fedi.buzz) to follow a few good tags/instances! I had a few other relays already, but the results have been mixed, with little relating to my own interests.

Here's hoping I get to see better stuff on my Federated timeline now, and also that I don't crash my own tiny instance with too much traffic.

seurimas,

@michael that's a nice tip! Maybe if I need some sort of public presence here, I'll give that a shot. Thanks!
