SAPPHIC SPANIARDS UPDATE 58

Fina’s father visits her again while she’s recovering in the dormitory. He brings her lentils Digna made for her. They joke a bit and agree they’re both grateful to have reunited. Isidro was an idiot and a half but Fina isn’t holding it against him, she’s just glad to have her father back.

Marta shows up and takes Isidro’s place by Fina’s bedside after telling her she looks too pretty have just stabbed yesterday. Doña Marta needs to up her flirting game, imo (1/9)

When Marta leans over to gently kiss Fina my body was in full alert - I’m so used to the lesbians being walked in on while kissing. Isidro had just left the room. They’re being a bit too careless for my lesbian anxiety.

Marta eventually admits what’s troubling her (partially) by explaining that Jesus has been in a car accident. Because of this she’s taking on some of his work responsibilities and won’t be as free to visit Fina whenever she wants to. (2/9)

What Marta neglects to mention is the fact that she confessed an affair to Jaime, and that as a result he has now decided to abandon his boat and stay with her “forever” ugh

Fina asks what Jaime had taken her to the hallway to discuss yesterday and Marta LIES - saying Jaime is so grateful for Fina saving Marta’s life that he wanted to ask what gift he could give her. Mmk sure. (3/9)

Jaime tells Marta he is staying because he wants to go back to how things were for them (he’s a broken record tbh). Jaime asks if she is still in contact with the photographer and she says “no” which is technically true, but then she reiterates the fact that she’s not… available because she is still affected by her paramour. Her feelings about their marriage has changed now. And she asks, “Why would you make such a sacrifice leaving the boat for a marriage that is dead?” (5/9)

There are a lot of other side storylines ramping up right now: Claudia is pregnant with Tasio’s baby, Priest Fuckface now knows about it, Carmen knows and she knows her husband is the father. Someone is trying to sabotage Perfumas de la Reina’s new cosmetic line, and Luz isn’t a real doctor (as evidenced by how she had them bridal carry Fina’s body from the shop instead of using a stretcher) (8/9)

Damian confronts Marta about her personal life after she has this dumb convo with Jaime - her dad loves meddling in her marriage. He tells her how it’s her responsibility to make things work with Jaime and reminds her that the ball is in her court “you make this easier for yourself… or harder” (another broken record). To satisfy her dad she calls Jaime to accept his invitation to lunch together. (7/9)

SAPPHIC SPANIARDS UPDATE 57

Fina’s dad rushes to her side, immediately all reproachfulness is abandoned and he helps move her wounded body to the clinic. When she wakes up, he gives a very lengthy apology for how he has turned his back on her, and treated her harshly. He begs for her to forgive him and promises to try to understand her, support her, and always be by her side no matter what.

Later, Fina jokes to Marta that if only she knew getting stabbed would make Isidro accept her…

In the wake of Fina’s relocation to the clinic, Marta returns to the scene of the crime with ketchup streaks on the floor where Fina laid in Marta’s arms.

She sits there for a minute, reeling from the trauma and remembering how Fina got hurt trying to save her.

Jaime arrives and Marta immediately blurts out

“I didn’t answer truthfully when you asked me if I had been with someone. I have.”

He says that since she forgave him of course he will forgive her for this.

Wow. Actually shocking.

She continues explaining that where his one night stand had meant nothing to him… this person still has a presence in her life.
He suggests it’s the photographer.
She doesn’t correct him.

Ah, this is why things have been so distant for them, he tells her he needs some space.

Of course he grabs his suitcase to leave. Be gone, boat boy!

Alas, he’s stopped by Marta’s father who tells him it’s his fault Marta found someone else - tells him to “fight like a man,” do whatever it takes to fix this

Marta is visiting Fina, now moved from the clinic back to the dormitory. Marta admits how terrified she was about losing Fina. They joke about how the stabbing has changed so much for Fina. Jaime, intrusive as usual, stops by.

He checks on Fina, and tells her he is forever grateful for her bravery in protecting Marta - the most important thing in his life.

Then he pulls Marta into the hall to tell her he’s been reflecting all day about all that’s happened.

I could kill Damian for meddling in this relationship. He also believes it’s the photographer Marta has been with, but the dude is long gone - unsuspecting that these idiots de la Reina think he’s been carrying on with the Ice Queen of the company.

So, Jaime tells Marta he knows things have been difficult because he’s left her alone but that will all change now.

“I’m going to leave the boat and stay here with you forever so you’ll never be alone”

Avance: Jaime tells Marta they should move to Madrid and live in the Secret Apartment together. Ugh.

Marta visits Fina’s bedside again and Fina can tell something is wrong but Marta doesn’t tell her about the Madrid thing. She wants to let Fina recover in peace after being stabbed trying to defend her. Yeah, worrying about the whole husband drama isn’t very conducive to recuperation.

Jaime reacted surprisingly calmly today though? He said he forgives her for cheating as she forgave him. But then she admitted it wasn’t just a fling, so…

Jaime seems less vindictive than a lot of men would be. It’s like he just really wants things to go back to how he remembers them being (although we know things never were very “passionate” between them) he wants to make their marriage work.

She regrets telling him the truth about herself - she feels stupid for believing that her father would still love her after learning she’s “different.” Isidro tells her she shouldn’t ask him for the impossible. Marta pleads for Fina to just do what butter knife boy is demanding. Then, he turns to Marta and yells for her to hand over her gold necklace. Fina has just learned that this is a special necklace that used to belong to Marta’s dead mom, and she only wears it when she wants to feel brave.

As Marta struggles to unlatch the necklace to comply with his demand, she is very shaken. The boy lets go of Fina and moves toward Marta. Fina grabs his arm to stop him. He turns and stabs her. (7/?)

Final scene:

Butter Knife Boy flees the shop, grabbing handfuls of cash as he exits. Marta rushes to Fina and catches her as she falls down - her abdomen seeping ketchup from the wound inflicted by that aluminum foil knife.

Marta is anguished and uselessly grabs at Fina spreading the ketchup all over both of their hands but not actually compressing the wound at all. Is anybody in this town actually trained in first aid? Maybe Begoña? Somebody call her, quickly! (8/?)

Avance: no sign of Fina, but we know she’s eventually going to be okay, so don’t worry!

Marta speaks to Jaime in the store, still wearing today’s outfit - probably hasn’t even had a chance to wash the ketchup off her hands properly!

She tells him that she wasn’t honest when he asked before and that’s not fair to him (the cheater) - she’s “been with” someone.

Next scene, Jaime is ratting Marta out to her father “your daughter has had an affair.” Great. What could possibly go wrong now?
