So I was gonna tell you about how I finally extricated myself from my job and i’m going to take a couple months to decompress and then start looking for something new … except I’ve had my chill utterly fucked by the experience of trying to buy health insurance on covered California, which decided it can’t verify my citizenship and I need a state hearing if I want to proceed.

day 1: pooped in the car, but otherwise did well on the ride. got a wet towel cleaning, cause mom thought a shower would be too much. still smell a bit. the porch steps to the front door are a no go. 6 ticks, from here or the shelter? probably here. don’t know bout cables, pulled down laptop and broke a glass. sliding doors are new. first zoom calls. don’t know about balls or sticks. couch and bed naps and cuddles: 10/10

About 20 years ago, I got to thinking about how much I missed playing music in the band (because adulthood sucks in that way). This started a whole journey of learning jazz piano as an adult and ultimately performing a set at Chicago's Jazz Showcase with a class I'd been taking.

Flash forward to this evening and I find myself watching my high school kid play on the stage of the Jazz Showcase with his high school jazz ensemble--bringing some kind of closure to a crazy 20 year adventure. Freaky.

It is incredibly frustrating that the only thing more stupid than Patreon is all the alleged Patreon substitutes that clearly don't even understand what Patreon does.

Pro tip: Patreon has no meaningful competitors, and also it sucks, so there's a huge opportunity for somebody to kick sand in its face and take its lunch money. But to do that you would have to understand what actually Patreon does that is worth it to creators to allow Patreon to take 5% of their proceeds (and then pass on to them a second 5% in payment processing fees).

Come back from the store yesterday and the kid and his friends are cooking steaks in the kitchen, making a big mess of things.

"What's this about?"

"Oh, we're making steaks to take on our big bike ride tomorrow."

"Ok, carry on then."

I will provide an update on how well this steak "energy bar" alternative worked out when they get back later today.
