My thoughts on Read You RSS reader

I want to like it, but it is not sending me push notifications, and that is a deal breaker. I run lineage OS and have ntfy as a unified push provider but expected that the app would be able to have a check interval at which time it would send me notifications if anything was new. The description says it’s capable of doing...

I think this is already fixed, but there is no new release since then.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

steersman2484,

I guess if you have one of those fancy fridges where you can get cold water or ice. Some of them require a water connection

steersman2484,

Create your input for email and password with the id / name “email” and “password” and hide them with CSS. Then you create the real inputs with an id like “zipcode” or some other thing that would throw bots off.

Password managers hate this trick

I just memeory leak and gain infinite performance /s

steersman2484, (edited )

How would you then represent 1/3 inches? ~5/16?

steersman2484, (edited )

Or you could do 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16 + 1/32 … or 1/(2^n) and sum that for n=2 to infinity

steersman2484,

If you create an image of the disk in the current state from a live boot or an other machine. You can try fixing it without having to risk making things worse

steersman2484,

Most of them don’t go over 20kHz as this is the max a human can hear. The lowest 5G frequenzy is 450MHz, therefore no, even if you would use sound as a medium.

steersman2484,

I agree on your take, but I don’t think that “future scaling” is a concern for the most home users.

steersman2484,

You can use the find command to do the stuff other commenters posted recursive

Switching to nixos?

steersman2484, (edited )

Yeah, it is a lot of initial work, but once you got your shell.nix or flake.nix in place it is really nice, to not have to deal with different dependencies and versions in different projects.

But you can also archive the same on any distro with the nix package manager.

Appreciation / shock at workplace IT systems

After self hosting several services for a few users, with SSO, backups, hardware issues etc, I really appreciate how good the IT was in my old company. Everything was connected, smooth, slick and you could tell it was secure. I had very few issues and when I did, they were quickly solved. Doing this all at scale for thousands of...

Does not look as nice, but is way less misleading

2G, 3G, 4G, 5G mobile data made some sense as it represents generational leaps in the technology itself but then Xfinity wants to advertise "10g" internet...

Comcast says it represents a 10 Gigabit cable internet network they are building (it doesn’t exist) so they are basically changing the meaning of the g from generation to gig to act like 10g is 5 generations better (or twice as fast)…or that they have a 10 gigabit network. Neither is accurate. It’s still just cable...

Is there a way to stop and rename a mounted external drive (DAS set to raid5) so it does not change names every restart linux ubuntu

As title says I have a direct attached storage attached to a Linux machine (that used to be windows). Said raid system started as being called ./Raid and is now after 2 restarts of of the lap top it is now ./Raid2. Is there a way to make it not change names every time I do a restart. I did some looking online but don’t want to...

steersman2484,

Just mount it to a fixed location in /etc/fstab, but use a mount option like nofail or nobootwait (quick search showed that this is the option for ubuntu users), so your machine still boots when the drive is not connected

steersman2484,

Ackchyually humans have 10 fingers, indexed 0 to 9

steersman2484,

If I would own property I would just gift it to some random drug addict

steersman2484, (edited )

This does not sound crazy, but why do I have to pay for them?

steersman2484, (edited )

The drug addict part was just a hyperbole and had nothing to do with my thought, but let me correct:

I work 40 years of my life to be able to buy another house. Why should I gift it to some random dude?
