I've torrented for years, but i'm trying to diversify. Soulseek works perfectly except my VPN makes it hard for people to download from me, and i'm currently trying to get eMule community version to work but it's giving me a few bugs. So haven't had the best results so far
I'm going to split a hair here: any endeavour needs to be financially sustainable for it to continue existing. So yes, in terms of future growth of federated platforms, i am mildly concenrned that there may not be enough people willing to put in the work and expense of maintaining an instance just so free. If you imagine a future where the fediverse has Twitter or Instagram levels of users, it's pretty likely that instance owners will want to monetize as much as possible, and then what happens?

There's a hack for this: remove all mods including yourself, subreddit is now unmoderated, report the unmoderated sub to admins, they nuke it. However the name won't be available again.
We have a limited ability to freely discuss piracy on mainstream social media, which Reddit now regrettably is. IMO piracy communities can probably only exist in decentralized social media anymore.
I think when they say ‘illegal content’ they mean, like, drugs and terrorism. Piracy probably ranks pretty low on the list.
Now yes the definition of piracy technically fits in the definition of ‘illegal content’, but just because two definitions intersect doesn’t mean you will get the logical consequences. The word of the rules is one thing, the rules in practice is another, so i think you can get away with a lot regardless of instance.
Besides, do the rules apply to the instance where you have your account, or to the instance where you’re posting/commenting? I genuinely don’t know

Ask a Pirate: What p2p networks do you use in 2023?
I do use BitTorrent, but it’s never going to beat the convenience of just searching for a file and getting it when p2p networks first came out....
How are lemmy and other fediverse platforms profitable?
Reddit migrator here (shocking, I know)...

Which version of eMule in [current year]?
According to Wikipedia, the lastest version of eMule was released in 2010, but "official forum users" developed an updated version as of 2017....
Are most of you using Torrents or Usenet?
I’m a bit surprised to see so many torrent posts. Are most people still using Torrents? Are most piracy users aware of programs like sonarr or radarr?
