I felt a duty to not only place pixels but also coordinate efforts. Picking the design, updating the design, spreading information so the people placing pixels know what’s going on, advertising, talking to other communities…
I don’t remember them very well but i’m pretty sure i’ve had 4 hour nights for the entire duration. For place 2023 i spent most of my waking time in Discord calls.
And all this for a game that can be emotionally devastating. Getting overrun by a streamer feels shockingly similar to having big kids trample your sand castle, it’s this little thing that you built together getting destroyed by stronger people and they’re mocking you relentlessly.
This is a thing that annoys me and it’s not just Microsoft doing this: there’s never a “No” button, it’s always “Not now” or “Maybe later”. As if i’m going to reconsider. As if it’s an honest offer worth thinking about and not a pop-up.
A lot has been said about Call of Duty MWII, but if your theory is correct then we’ll have to say that, of all things, its plot was prescient. And i’m not ready for that
All of this is cuckoo. I don’t know what it is about the audiophile market that makes it full of stuff like this. Them calling it “proprietary”, being vage about “minerals and fluids” involved and assuring us that their techniques “took years to develop”, is red flag language that i’ve heard over and over again.
To use political jargon, Nikki Haley—who has lost primary contests in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and her home state of South Carolina—does not have a snow ball’s chance in hell of winning the GOP nomination for president. Still, she is apparently intent on not going down without a fight, and to that end, the former...
Also Trump won’t be on the ballot in some states (Illinois is in the news today for this reason), that could also be an opportunity for her - unless i misunderstand the american electoral system, which honestly i do most of the time
On the one hand, this is true, you gotta vote for the lesser of two evils.
But also, there are only two candidates.
So now it’s this shitty situation where US voters just have to vote Biden no matter what, he can do anything and there will never be consequences electorally. And i really feel like there should be consequences for supporting a genocide.
I was actually there so my view of events is pretty biased, but watching mods get removed from their position and replaced with more complying people made me think that the power dynamic was insurmountable. Regardless of how much free labor they perform, moderators don’t actually get bargaining power in return, Reddit employees untimately are above them to defend the company’s interests. Realistically, the function of a Reddit mod is to spare admins the grunt work of ground-level moderation decisions.
NEW YORK, Feb 7 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Social media platform Reddit, which helps its users “dive into anything,” may finally plunge into the public markets. The 19-year-old company made over $800 million in sales last year, at least 20% more than in 2022, according to Bloomberg. But a dearth of profit this late into its...
Well yeah, the joy of owning a part of a business that is important to you is part of the reason i support worker co-ops.
Back when i liked Reddit i would have LOVED to own a tiny share of it, it would have given a new meaning to being a moderator. But now in 2024 the DSP program left me feeling dejected.
I feel like AI companies have been scraping Reddit for their datasets already since the beginning and without permission. In fact, unless there’s been a regulation change that i’m not aware of, i’m not sure why they would have Reddit “sign away” the data when they can just scrape it.
Also dubious if the current form of AI has a future. They seem like they should revolutionize every sector when you look at their capacities, but in practice their applications might be more limited than we thought?
Anyway, if Reddit does go public i will be deleting my account within the hour. The only reason i haven’t yet is that i’ve been a moderator of the same subreddit for eight years and it’s the only thing that’s been consistent in my life in that time, i’m kind of attached. The reason i will is i didn’t sign up to create value for shareholders, i signed up to create value for a community.
Well no, because the old sub will continue to exist and will therefore always be where everyone goes until Reddit itself dies. I really doubt admins would let me delete the sub.
I would have sworn that autosave was enabled by default in absolutely every software that has anything to save since like the 2000s, you’re throwing me on a loop here.
As far as text editors actually, i feel like they may be constantly saving, particularly if they’re cloud-based. But i’ve been using LibreOffice for a while so i wouldn’t know. (and yes i did have to enable autosave)
I’ve lived in cities with trams for the past 10 years and i think buses are less cool but more practical. Installing the rails is expensive and disruptive, they take a lot of room on the street (with the stop included), and if a tram gets stuck the next one can’t go around, it just sits there and waits.
Oh, so all those times i was stuck inside a tramway were just bad dreams i had.
You’re off the rails (intentional). I just said that i have personal experience with tramways as public transit, and i get responded with a dubious generality and a passive-agressive meme from fifteen years ago. And for some reason a whataboutism with subways??

I found that the Kensington Expert has a ball that’s too big and the buttons are too far apart. And if you’re trying to do something weird like holding a button while tracking, that can be a problem.
The CST L-Trac solves this by having really big buttons, you can use different fingers to push and hold different buttons while you roll the ball, and that flexibility helps get different things done. It does come at the cost of only having three buttons though (left, right, middle). Also the middle button and scroll barrel are pretty far forward so there’s only one hand grip you can do on this thing, it REALLY should have a scroll ring like the Expert has.
The only real way to find your trackball is to try them, since they’re all so different. And you’re going to want to buy them from FB marketplace in the first place, first to keep it cheap, but also because you can re-sell them fro roughly the same price
