Thank god. Hopefully this is the end of attempts to important that bit of US culture war lunacy here.

Article commenting on the lunacy of everything having to be five stars to be good. Agreed. When I was reviewing comedy shows for The Age, I ran the gamut from awarding 1 to 5 stars. It was useful.

@imalcolm @static Hmm using certain awful courier companies would get a low rating from me (eg Aramex)

As much as I'm enjoying this sunny weather, it does seem disturbingly warm for this time of year. Usually by mid-May it feels icy in Melbourne.

@MorpheusB Where is here?

timrichards,
@timrichards@aus.social avatar

@ajft Yeah true it starts cold but has been getting lovely in the middle of the day. Usually by this time of year I'm wrapped up all day.

If you don’t need that $300 utility relief or are a high income earner that isn’t needing all of your stage 3 tax cut, I know the families we support do. They’ve been completely left behind once again in & you could help them by donating it: donate.asrc.org.au/takeaction

@imalcolm aha that's funny, it was a funky homewares shop for quite a while and we wondered if they were secretly arms dealers, as they never seemed very busy. ;)

I ordered 3 of the exact same T-shirt from Target - and they're sending them as three separate parcels from three separate stores. Hmm OK, maybe not that efficient...

@CaraBruar They closed their Melbourne CBD store too! But I need their big sizes, so not much choice.

The thing I like least about the recent wave of inflation is having to now forensically check every cafe/restaurant menu to decide whether I can afford to eat there. Never really had to do that before. But prices are soaring while my freelance income remains much the same.

timrichards,
@timrichards@aus.social avatar

@sister_ratched @Susan60 Well either way, I can't afford to eat out as much and I'm mourning that a bit. Was the only pleasure I ever spent much money on.

timrichards,
@timrichards@aus.social avatar

@Susan60 @sister_ratched I find skipping drinks is a good strategy to keep prices down. Tap water all the way.

I do stick to just one item as carry-on, though I imagine it's often over the weight limit. On my flight from Belgrade last year I suddenly realised I was on a low-cost carrier and had to get the backpack down to 7kg. So everything that absolutely wasn't needed went out - nail-clippers, papers, toiletries. And I zipped about 1kg of notebooks into my jacket pockets. :)

@rusted Yeah also I regard wheels on luggage as unnecessary extra weight. :)
