@markhansen@decryption@oysta this is a general societal lack of shame. Sat across the table from a contractor yesterday morning who had connected a new fire water system to an old one. The new system has an operating pressure of 800kpa, but when testing the pressure kept topping out at 300kpa. The contractor spent a week “fault/leak finding” before one of our guys noticed they’d failed to isolate a pressure relief/safety valve on the old system which activated at … 300kpa. Says I, “so your commissioning engineer completely failed to spot a simple issue, right?”. Contractor agrees. Says I, “so you spent a week on a redundant exercise, right?”. Contractor agrees. Says I, “so you have no basis to make a claim for costs, right?”. Contractor, “naa but like, you know, regardless of all that we did, like, do the work but”.
If I was a councillor sacked for being corrupt after an IBAC investigation,I wouldn't stand for re-election, I would disappear into obscurity in shame for doing a bad thing. This is probably why I'm not a councillor. The audacity of these bottom feeders is astounding.
@decryption if they all belonged to one union, or one super fund or one anything, and weren’t such a bunch of socially inept loners [no offence, friends], I’d say wangle your way into their attention that way.
@decryption I knew a religious, conservative notion who was against wind power because it would “disturb nature by taking that natural energy out of the system”. Much better to burn fossil fuels, she argued.
@decryption the plan of a yank acquaintance living here in Au is to basically walk away from her $500k debt once her grandparents in the US die, understanding that she’ll never be able to travel there again.
