0.19.4 introduced some changes to the way votes are displayed, they seem to be working fine for me on the web ui. I don’t know if connect has been updated for 0.19.4 or lets you change account settings, but if you go to aussie.zone/settings (when logged in) there is a “Show Scores” setting which was off by default for me.
What is with dickheads getting light bars on their cars now. I live in a rural area and not right on the road, trying to sleep and then at 12:38am some dickhead’s got his light bar on and my whole room is illuminated, and the part of the road he was on… at least a kilometre or two away! WTF are they trying to see that their...
Yeah I try to be good, but these idiots probably can’t even see the glow of my headlights, because theirs are so bright, so I’ve also defaulted to letting them make the first move. Another thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes they will turn of the light bar but keep the high beams on.
Something interesting I’d like to point out, the videogame Mindustry is open source and copyleft (I think either GPL or AGPL). You can get a build off GitHub or FlatHub completely for free. However there is a Steam version with Steam multiplayer and achievements as well which is $9.99 USD on Steam, estimated ownership is around 846.7k [1], the price hasn’t always been $9.99, but assuming that isn’t the case the game has made around $8 million, I haven’t taken out Valve’s cut and I don’t know how much tax they’re paying but that’s pretty good. It could be a lot higher if all of the FlatHub and GitHub users paid for their copy. I initially discovered the game on FlatHub, loved it and now have it on Steam. I wouldn’t have bought the game if I hadn’t tried it for free.
It feels counterintuitive that freeloaders can help with sales, but consider a physical artwork like a painting. People don’t tend to buy these things without seeing them first, and seeing it is experiencing, so there’s very little benefit to buying it, but people do anyway to support the artist, because they want more.
This would be a good use of defamation laws, the implications if this case goes ahead would lead to much better behaviour from politicians and perhaps force a bit more truth into political advertising
Yeah I was a bit torn on this, initially I was on the government’s side because I don’t like it when big multinationals try to fuck us around (like Valve). But like the news thing a couple of years ago I have to side with the tech giant.
If the government gets to decide what we can and can’t see then I think democracy is in trouble.
True, they do a lot of this under the guise of copyright enforcement as well (which you can change your dns to fix generally). I don’t understand how this censorship is any different from what we look down upon authoritarian countries. I like the idea of a free and open web
But in this specific case if they blurred out the content and put a warning: “This post contains graphic content, do you wish to view it?”. Or perhaps we could use AI to give a description so people know what they’re getting into. There’s nothing wrong with that, and I don’t know why that isn’t good enough.
I might sound hypocritical as a mod of a few communities on here who has removed a few comments that don’t meet our standards, but comments on Lemmy aren’t truly removed (unless an admin purges it) and can be viewed in the modlog (or with a client that doesn’t respect the condition when a comment has been removed, there’s still quite a few where this is the case).
They keep appointing LNP and Murdoch approved hacks to the ABC so we keep getting LNP and Murdoch aligned moves, while they are still by far one of the best news sources in Australia, we need to look at the ABC with a critical eye, as with all other media.
