Have to say, I wasn't expecting this in my feed. It is a bit novel of a concept, but if you think about what it takes to build and ship a product, a lot of this makes sense, and modern languages are starting to follow the batteries included mentality (golang, rust)....
I found out about it because of a hacker news comment discussing the Reddit drama. I'm pretty upset that I didn't discover it on Reddit. I assume any mention of Lemmy was marked as spam or was I just not browsing the right communities?
I’m a moderator of a smaller community. I’m posting quality content multiple times a day, and I posted about it in New Communities. The number of subscribers is low but it’s growing steadily....
Make it easy to subscribe if someone is browsing from a different instance. For example, the link to the new communities sub Lemmy, I think if you leave off the protocol (https://) I could browse it via my instance and actually click the subscribe button.
This boat has been anchored in this spot for about a month. Every time the tide goes out the boat sits on the mud. I've been curious if this is harming the boat anyway? Seems like a weird spot to anchor long term....
I used a hammy down s5 for a few years. Just had to replace the battery and it was good to go. It eventually degraded and became really really slow. Good phone.
My last phone bit the dust because I made the mistake of taking it apart to repair it. It became a gluey piece of garbage. If I want it be waterproof I'll stick it in a sandwich bag. Or maybe the manufacturer can use the novel tech of gaskets.
I haven't used Reddit since I discovered Lemmy. I was a lurker on Reddit and just browsed /r/all. That was a pretty unhealthy habit, glad that the black out happened honestly.
I just finished building a model of a pirate ship and want the flags to be pointing the right direction. Should the flags be blowing to the bow because the wind is behind the ship, or to the stern as the ship drags the sails along?...
In that case, personally I'd make the flag blowing toward the stern to show that it was beating up wind. I'd upvote a picture of the completed model if you upload it 😁
We use navionics for navigation and the windy.com app for wind and weather. Interested to see if there are any other good ones out there that we should be looking into. I've seen some people using the predictwind app for route planning but it's kind of expensive.
I have a SignalK server running on a raspberry pi that I finally got hooked up to my instruments via a nifty hat (sailor hat). I'm excited to try out the anchor alarm feature. Hopefully it'll be less prone to false alarms about my anchor dragging than my phone.

how did you find out about Lemmy?

Looking for a Reddit alternative? Lemmy tell you, they currently kinda suck (www.androidauthority.com)
Yeah, this describes my experience so far. I really want to like it here, but so far it's been an effort....
How do you google for lemmy results?
Since reddits search function is a hot pile of garbage, I mostly used google to find threads when I needed community based information....
Can you please give me some tips on how to grow and popularize a Lemmy community?

Solo sailing on Father's Day (lemmy.world)
Not the best wind, but it was sailing none the less. Sailed about 10 miles averaging 4kts

EU votes to mandate removable batteries in smartphones in a landslide; no more glued together junk! (www.youtube.com)
how many of you have genuinely ditched reddit?
due to the rolling blackout... I think it's had its effect....
What direction do flags blow on a tall ship?
I just finished building a model of a pirate ship and want the flags to be pointing the right direction. Should the flags be blowing to the bow because the wind is behind the ship, or to the stern as the ship drags the sails along?...
