villasv,

That’s the same thing. The default implementation for this is a tax bracket for the ultra-rich that uses 100% marginal tax rates.

villasv,

Anyone with two brain cells can understand that it’s a wordplay on “minimum wage” and the implementation of this isn’t really going to rely on the narrow definition of wages.

villasv,

Always amusing that the thread with the most convoy shitbags participation tends to be Russia related

villasv,

That wouldn’t make sense, but even if that was not a joke, it would be out of scope. The legislation is likely to focus on requiring platforms to moderate content more strongly; plus maybe penalties for cyberbullying, deepfakes and such.

Being insensitive online is unlikely to ever become a crime, let alone something that can prosecuted retroactively.

villasv,

All your examples indicate that if anything, having an actual black face is riskier than doing blackface in the long term.

villasv,

I don’t understand the mystery. Just give all these micro mobility thingies the same rules we have for bicycles.

Enclosed disability vehicles and microcars are the only ones that I really think we need to be careful about, but unicycles and e-scooters? Come on.

villasv,

The earth is doomed then, because I think Eby is doing great. The situation is still shit but I can see the effort and the good ideas are there.

villasv,

And you can bet that when that leak would happen, it would come along the entire search and view history for that person.

These dumbfucks have to be saved from digging their own graves as always, because I’m sure the porn they consume is the shadiest.

villasv,

I appreciate the effort, and I think this might be good legislation. Not sure yet, but it’s worth to try and see.

That said, I don’t really know if house flippers are really “speculators”. I don’t see speculation involved in arguing that a house is worth more after renovation.

villasv,

Sounds fair, but negotiating purchases below market values - even if at a grifter level - is still not speculation either. Making a profit off of “impatient idiots” is at best shady arbitrage, it should still be resold near market value anyway.

villasv,

archive.is/zKGa6

Ottawa will only process a limited number of study permit applications from institutions in each province. If an application is refused because officials don’t believe the applicant is genuine or has enough money to complete the study, that potential enrolment spot will be wasted.

“You’re going to see decreasing numbers of African students coming to Canada, not because they’re not interested. It’s just because the institutions are not going to use their quotas for countries with lower visa approvals.”

villasv,

Life sentence. Expected no less, and the precedent against white supremacism terrorists is much welcome

villasv,

Gen X is still bigoted af, and millenial/zoomer white males are still disputed. Not to mention the self-sustaining rural/urban divide.

I’m excited too but not too hopeful.

villasv,

Trying to squeeze those last few boomer votes, what a shitbag. The joke writes itself.

The proposed law would require websites to verify users’ ages before they can access sexually explicit content, and it would penalize sites that don’t comply.

But it does not specify how that would be done.

suggestions have prompted widespread concern from privacy experts about their overarching impacts

The Conservatives have not proposed any alternatives for how porn sites could verify users’ ages without such systems.

villasv,

It was previously commercialized as Lightning Fastener in NA, or hookless fastener in contrast with previous “technology”.

Non-english languages sometimes have other words for it, if they encountered it before the Zipper was widespread. In Spanish we have cremallera and cierre. Old timers say fecho-de-correr or “fecho eclair” in Portuguese, referring to another patent holder Éclair Prestil.

villasv,

write down your calories so you can minimize the number of calories you eat

and weight watchers lol

villasv,

Yeah, as always defining what’s good and what’s bad is a waste of time. It has a LOT of room for improvement, at the very least it should own the tracks and be able to prioritize its own trains as it sees fit. HSR is a faraway dream at the moment, even in the Windsor-QC corridor where it’s so obvious it hurts.

villasv,

BTW it looks like the advocacy done by Paige and Reece has been paying off:

Interesting to get to know one in Victoria. I found a family doctor within days of searching in Vancouver, so I have been assuming this is a big city x small city disparity, but if someone has been waiting 3 years in Victoria then there’s something else at play?

villasv, (edited )

Whenever the police pick a politician, the people just have to pick the opposition

villasv,

I shouldn’t get to say what the nut jobs believe it what they tell their children

Verbal abuse and other forms of damage parents can enact by just “saying what they believe” are a mental health hazards. We as a society came to an agreement that parents don’t have the “liberty” of aggravating health issues on their kids. No one is forbidding parents from teaching kids to be creationists, but a kid suffering with gender dysphoria needs care and parents don’t have the right to deny that care.

So the “(to a point)” is the crucial bit here, and it’s exactly that point where this discussion is centered.

villasv,

I don’t have it, but my friend does and while he’s happy with the price, he always complains that the coverage is lame and it doesn’t work well when we’re camping or doing weekend trips. He’s waiting for a good deal to switch over.

villasv,

Come on CBC, that’s a garbage headline

villasv,

Crucial study, we need more of those. Kudos to the researchers.

It also pains me that having dozens of these is not really what’s going to change how the city handles the issue. I honestly don’t know what it takes to move public opinion forward on this at this point. We have decades of studies on transit fatalities and what really changed the attitude towards active transportation was mainstream YouTubers blowing oxygen on the new urbanist movement.

villasv,

That’s one of the many tragedies of high-inflation + high-interests economies, those who are free of debt have plenty of opportunities to cash out with relatively low risk investments. That’s about 30% of the population (debt-free), but really those who are truly able to take meaningful advantage is a subset of the ~4% of Canadians that have a maxed out TFSA. So yet again we’re tilting the playing field towards the widening of wealth inequality.
