I was going through my YouTube subscriptions on an account that’s been active since 2010ish. I didn’t recognize several accounts at all. They had deleted all their older videos and changed their account names.
I found myself subscribed to things that I would never have subscribed to. Either I had done it accidentally or they changed their name and took their videos in a different direction.
It’s a bummer because there are some old videos that were pretty funny/creative and now they are just gone.
Today, a bunch of people on my Mastodon feed are making declarations about somebody apparently flying a flag upside down, and this apparently has something to do with the New York Times being terrible....
I grew up near Westboro Baptist in Topeka. We all knew where they lived because they fly the US flag upside down. They say “the US is in distress because of all the sinning”. Basically, because they hate LGBT+ people.
Maybe Beck? Que’ Onda Guero always makes me giggle.
And, a bit of a different genre but Father John Misty’s songs are sarcastic and often nonsensical. They sound all romantic and dreamy but the lyrics don’t always match the vibe.
I thought of another one. That band Bloodhound Gang has some goofy songs. Obviously they have that one over-played song, but they also have a song that is just Ralph Wiggins quotes.
I could be misremembering, but I believe this is a bit of photography trickery. I think there is actually a platform under his feet and it’s not as far down as it seems.
I found an article on other photos taken during that time. It doesn’t mention this one specifically but it does say there were a whole series of photos staged on beams during construction of the RCA building. It was a promotional photo shoot.

Why are people talking about flying a flag upside-down?

The Offspring, The Beastie Boys, Van Halen w/DLR, and the B52s. Are there other bands that rock, but are often silly/goofy and funny?
maybe I don't want to live with the consequences (lemmy.world)
