This article is full of the ridiculous sentiment that car traffic is essential for retail. No substantial evidence at all. And lots of other causes for the street's decline, eg. high commercial rents – which are mentioned in the article.

Acland Street, St Kilda: How development and a super tram stop killed one of Melbourne’s most popular shopping strips

@timrichards And yet Acland St somehow supports 4 icecream stores!
Perhaps, just maybe, people don't want to buy random crap on Acland St they can buy online with significantly less effort.

    @decryption I've spent quite a bit of time in Geneva, though nowhere else in Switzerland. It's a lovely city, and a short train ride from Lyon (the best city). Trains in that part of the world are a joy that we can only dream about here in Aus.

    Apps really need to stop calling 2FA via a OTP "Google Authentication". It's not correct and less savvy users will think they need to go and download the shitty Google Authenticator app when they can use anything that will generate a OTP like 1Password.

    @decryption VS Code find and replace?

    wallamba,
    @wallamba@aus.social avatar

    @decryption Nah. Open the directory and Ctrl + shift f and you're good to find and replace in any number of files as deep as you like without opening anything.

    Upgrade day. 5700x, Arc A770 16gb and 64gb ram kit. Still pretty pleb tier specs for unreal engine, but not going big until I know if I'm any good at it.
    Now what to do with the leftover PC parts... 3600, 1660 super and 4 X 8gb sticks. I've also got a spare nvme laying about... 🤔

    wallamba,
    @wallamba@aus.social avatar

    @decryption Unreal devours VRAM and I'd have to go up to a 4080 in Nvidia to get 16gb, which is too expensive and AMD is super buggy in unreal apparently.
    The Arc is by far the cheapest for 16gb VRAM and is extremely competitive in DX12 and supports real time raytracing in UE which is what I want.
    It's still a risky choice as there's only a few random claims that UE runs well on Arc. I'll roll the dice for $500 and Intel have been nailing the driver updates.

    wallamba,
    @wallamba@aus.social avatar

    @decryption There's a 16gb version of the new 4060 coming out in a month or so apparently. But that card has been slammed and It'll likely be closer to $1,000.

    This utter madness needs to stop. The size of these vehicles is completely unnecessary.

    @decryption haha yeah it's rather good on Facebook too, so many man-children defending their monster trucks with profile pics and grammar to match.

    PC laptop manufacturers are clueless when it comes to marketing, seriously. They all have ambiguous and mostly meaningless categories with often hundreds of laptop models that are very similar. Home, work or for creators... Umm all three? Asus for example... I don't want this bullshit, just give me 2 or 3 models to choose from that I can spec up to what I want.
