@wendigo @jake4480 This is a banger song! I will be listening to more of Puscifer songs later on.

@wendigo pretty cool! I suppose the irony here is that I watched and listened on YouTube and that he's the singer of one of the biggest bands in the world hahaha

Has anybody had success mounting a Windows 11 share using CIFS under Linux? I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong on the Windows end. The feature is installed, users / passwords is turned off, the Everyone group has read access. There is something I can try that's been bugging me, knowing how goofy Windows is. SAMBA is much easier to implement than this schlock...

Gonna watch a little Brew Crew and listen to music. I now have another team to follow... ;>) @HailsandAles @fistfulofdave

@wendigo @fistfulofdave Yeah I didn’t know who he was but I’ve been filled in by some podcasts haha

@HailsandAles @fistfulofdave I remember when he was a player... ;>)

I'm having a debate in my head. Has anyone ever felt the need to organize their files or CDs by genre? As I rebuild my collection, I wonder if this will help me focus on what I want or need to hear...

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@wendigo interesting. And maybe? For some reason, I have all my metal split off into another folder ('A METAL FOLDER' so it stays at top when organized alphabetically 🤣)

I do like being able to see JUST that genre, which is within the full My Music folder (I just throw it in the default) but then all the other bands are just in there. Sorting by punk and stuff would be great too.

The problem of course is crossover. Where the fuck do you file stuff like Zolle. They're currently not in my metal folder. But they could be? 😂

@HailsandAles As far as your Styx playlist goes, I have my buddy Jon, who is also an expert, working on his, and I will compare our two for your best possible experience... ;>)

@HailsandAles Well, I'll shut up at some point, but a site everyone interested in the sport should familiarize themselves with is Baseball Reference. This is your bible, mate...

Listening to the only album I really rate by The Beatles. 'Abbey Road'. I feel so calm and pleasant...

@wendigo@metalhead.club avatar

@jake4480 Do your demo, and put it up on Bandcamp for free while you work on shit. Get started. I want you to realize this, and if anything, your woman will be stoked, like I said...

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@wendigo haha oh, I appreciate it- my thing is though, I need real drums for it. And I do have an idea of some guys I want to help me. It's about getting across the country 😂 after I finish all the Salesforce whatnot. I did plenty of it in my 20s and even 30s - and I learned early on, big long albums aren't the way to go, it's too daunting. Unless you just have a full band. EPs are gonna be the way to go for me. I have the first planned out and working on others. Max 4-5 songs though probably. That's the best way. If you do 10-12 (I did 12 in Nashville) it's fun but the scope of the project gets away from you. You've heard all the stuff at https://souranteater.bandcamp.com right, that's all me haha

Well, believe it or not, I saw 'They Live' for the first time yesterday. It was entertaining and the theme as relevant as ever, but it's certainly not my favorite John Carpenter flick. Got a few lined up for a lazy Sunday: 'Escape from New York', 'Prince of Darkness', 'The Thing', and 'Halloween'... ;>)

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@wendigo helll yeah! One of my favorites. I need to do another rewatch. I don't like it as much as In the Mouth of Madness (my favorite Carpenter) but it's a damn close second. And of course The Thing comes in a close third.

One of my favorite traditional songs as performed by the Grateful Dead. Probably well unknown for most people these days (so I'm going to loophole the rules). I picked 1977 because that was a great year for the Dead... ;>)

@wendigo really! They don't even play Casey much live?? Bizarre. It's the only one I ever heard on radio. Some bands start to hate their popular songs I think haha. I could see that when this last time I saw the Puppets, Curt BEGRUDGINGLY played Backwater, it was hilarious. I could see him telling the rest of the band, like, here we have to go, I guess 😂

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@wendigo I mean.. Backwater's cool. It used to be my ringback! Remember those? hahaha. (fun fact: Backwater was supposed to be a GOSPEL song) But Severed Goddess Hand is probably my favorite from Too High and they always play that- my 2nd favorite from Too High is Violet Eyes and I'm not even sure they've ever played that live hahaha. SUCH a great song. What an album opener! The Puppets play a TON of old stuff/Up on the Sun etc when they play live. Or brand new (Dusty Notes) which is cool. But they ignore No Joke and a lot of those other newer kinda albums (Lollipop, Rat Farm, etc) that I mentioned the other day. Which is a shame. I always wanna see THOSE songs live haha

Dragging out the 'Alien' boxset to get acquainted with all the sequels. Watched the UHD version of the first film earlier. Never get tired of it. Don't really care about UHD for the ones that follow. Should be fun. I haven't seen 'Aliens' in ages and the rest are unknown to me...

wendigo,
@wendigo@metalhead.club avatar

@jake4480 We tend to forget that before 'Twister' and later, Bill Paxton was a goofy fuck. And obviously, Newt is the archetype for the little troubled kid that the protagonist takes a shine too. Talking about 'Aliens'.

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@wendigo 😂 yes!! Bill was an INCREDIBLE actor. Such a range. Even in Big Love. He shone. He's missed.

Off to see Phantom Menace. Thankfully, Star Wars is not brain intensive viewing. I tried to get out of it, but my buddy took the day off... ;>)

wendigo,

@jake4480 Can't say that I do too much. It seemed contrived. And wee Anikan, too. Was Lucas making a kids movie or what? Not to blast your enjoyment of the film. I just like stories that are a bit more serious. Although, Darth Maul was cool. And Senator Palpatine's plot was very cynical...

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@wendigo 😂 I mean.. it has issues. Some of it's the pacing and there's oddness. It's the weakest of all the movies for sure even including the new ones. But yeah I still dig it. Important backstory I guess? The age difference between the two too.. Hmm haha

I've worked at two different recycling facilities. The US is #1 at paper recycling. However, my point is that you can't recycle plastic. You can't. If someone says so, they're talking bullshit. Coca Cola might be able to do it if they're only using their plastic in house, but you can't do it nationally or globally because the chemical composition of plastic is different based on the use and manufacturer. It's all bullshit...

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@wendigo Exactly, it would require a level of standardization which would be such a challenge in the plastic space! Herding cats would be something easier to accomplish than making every company completely standardize the plastic making process so it's universally recyclable.

I wish we could get away from plastic usage completely, as it's wreaking havoc already. Many generations of people will suffer due to the microplastics unleashed in the world and building up in living things.

Lots of dumpster divers at the Winn Dixie. I see them every day because I'm up very early. I'm fine with homeless people. It's gross, but you have to get by somehow. What I'm not fine with are the douches in their retro-rides and nice clothes showing up to grab a free ham because they're too cheap to buy it, and they always see me and offer excuses. Fuck them. What should happen is that Winn Dixie should be donating their "waste" / food to homeless shelters and off-market stores...

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@wendigo Food that is still edible (but can't be sold) does need to be distributed better as it would go a long way to making lives for the homeless or low-income households less difficult! America has a real issue with generating food waste which doesn't help anyone. Nobody should have to dig in a dumpster for their next meal. 😬

We have a Flint Hills Bread Basket around here and for the most part donations are handled well. However, more places need to be incentivized to participate!

Who loves black and white films? And who doesn't mind the grain of real film versus digital? I'm great on both accounts...

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@wendigo I don't mind either one. Wife isn't a fan of black and white. But yeah I can and will watch any. Had a film class a few years back and saw MANY older films, Chaplin, early stuff, into Hitchcock, even Casablanca, Citizen Kane (ugh tough to get through that one though), Double Indemnity, etc, etc

I really like how Google scams people who unsubscribe to Google One Drive by sending them emails that say their Gmail will stop working. Completely untrue. Sure, I'll have much less storage space, but I'm completely OK with that. The point is, my Mom would completely believe that without reading any further...

wendigo,
@wendigo@metalhead.club avatar

@jake4480 Wow, that's pretty cool, man! Looks like you're well on your way to having all that sorted. I don't collect shit anymore except for Blu-rays, e-books, and digital music. I still have a few knick-knacks that have sentimental value for me, though. I'll get snaps when I'm feeling a bit more motivated... ;>)

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@wendigo 😂 yeah I go through phases I guess, I do love weird and gross toys. And the cartoon stuff since I do the blog, the games and such was from over on Instagram initially, lots of cool folks on there but also as I didn't have any growing up, initially eBay was pretty good gets earn adult money, back in the early 2000s I started grabbing SNES stuff. And the garage sales, so much stuff is around. But yeah organization is key, knowing when to move stuff on, etc. I know all about that 🤣
