Thanks!

It’s not a yo yo. It’s for contact-style manipulation, similar to a deadeye or coin tricks, but hollow

I would definitely say begleri are my fav skill toys!

I have a few staples that’s for sure!

Pffffft. Only 27? I’ve maxed my allowed tabs on my phone browser several timed over, let alone my computer browser.

Also. Firefox >>> Chrome.

Oh awesome, I already deal with sleep paralysis on a semi-regular basis, now you’re telling me there’s yet another thing to worry about? 😭

TIL The first black hole visualization was rendered by hand from punch card computer results in 1979 (s.yimg.com)

Jean-Pierre Luminet calculated all of that back in 1979 using the IBM 7040 mainframe, an early transistor computer with punch card inputs. The machine generated isolines for his image that were “directly translatable as smooth curves using the drawing software available at the time,” he told Engadget in an email....

That image makes them even more frightening looking…

Very cool though. It’s astounding how it’s simultaneously not that long ago that this was, how long it took for humans to have the collective knowledgebase for this to happen, and how exponentially far we’ve come since then.

Borderlands 2, combined across systems I have over 1k hours

Yeah it would be really great to be able to make a temporary filter, like I’d love to be able to have my homepage without any content from Memes without having to unsubscribe

Stunning photo. This is so interesting!

Oh we’ll get to the sloughing!

(Not nearly as much sloughing as I expected though, tbh. They talked it up way more than actually talking about it, which is fine)

Not related to politics, they’re horror fans - name is a reference to ‘Last House on the Left’. They cover anything that’s macabre, be it real or fake, so true crime, serial killers, paranormal events, cults, conspiracy theories, cryptids; that sort of thing.

My fiancée and I like to play dice / board / card games when we’re out and about. I keep these mini ones on me all the time, because we often forget to bring something or don’t want to carry around a game and these take up virtually no space. I’d say we use them at least twice a week

wren,
@wren@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah :)

I am looking to upgrade them though. These came from a mini farkle set (which is primarily what we play with these), but I’d love to have something that has a little bit more heft to them.

Oh this is cool! Thanks!

Chetki from Aroundsquare, it’s a skill toy

wren,
@wren@lemmy.ml avatar

A skill toy. They originated as prayer beads in Russian prisons, and people started using them as a way to pass the time by flipping them around and doing tricks. Modern chetki are designed specifically for this type of manipulation

Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone?

Is this how most people type on mobile these days, drawing lines all over a keyboard instead of tapping the individual keys? I've never had an iPhone so I don't even know if they can do this natively, but I know you can switch keyboards at least, so it should still be an option if not.

wren,
@wren@lemmy.ml avatar

100%. I use a third party app called Nintype which actually lets you two-thumb swipe type - to my knowledge the only one that has this as a feature. It’s so so much faster than single thumb swiping and peck typing once you get used to it. Sadly it’s been abandoned by the dev, so I’ll be gutted when whatever iOS version decides Nintype is too old and no longer supported

Komboloi might be up your alley. They’re more skill toys than fidgets, but it’s still something to do with your hands

wren,
@wren@lemmy.ml avatar

Yep you can! I have a set on my wrist right now, in fact. Some styles can be very clunky and annoying (esp with the tassels, which are needed to be able to slide the closing bead down to slip it off your wrist and give you slinging room) but if you shop around a little I’m sure you’ll find something that works for you.

I personally never go anywhere without arounsquare’s nano mkultra set - pricey, but I’ve definitely gotten my moneys worth. You can see them in a few of my other posts on here. I also got a great set from workshopfidgets on etsy, similar to this set here. There’s also loads of other great sets on etsy, and the internet in general!

Sorry if this was long, I’m just very passionate about skill toys and fidgets of all kinds - hence having the ‘idle hands’ community here haha

wren,
@wren@lemmy.ml avatar

Fantastic! I really hope you like it :)

And yes it is! !idlehands

I also have a few posts on there in my post history, if that’s easier to navigate to!

Lmaoooo that’s a hilarious mental image

Glad you found it eventually though!
