For comparison the UK has libel/slander laws that are biased against free expression and towards the victim. Similar cases in the US are often found in favour of the speaker, making it much protective over there (and good news for the non-profit Musk is suing).

So this means that if a UK journalist has written an uncomfortable article about you, you can just sue them and win very handily! This therefore blocks the publication of said article and makes even knowing what the topic of the article was practically illegal. Very handy if youโ€™re an Arab billionaire or a Russian oligarch.

Put simply, if this was happening in the UK, Musk would win almost guaranteed. However, the USA does give a fighting chance to this group thanks to their free speech laws.

I know itโ€™s funny to dead name corporations, but a courier company called Hermes renamed to Evri (to stave off all their bad press for being awful). However, nobody in the UK calls them Evri and even the company has to say โ€œEvri (formerly Hermes)โ€ on all itโ€™s information.

So the moral is, deadname a corporation until they have to tacitly place it in brackets.

@SuperDicq @susul Same here, although whatever rental agreement you had beforehand stays in place. Good thing if you have a longterm lease (because youโ€™re basically immune to being evicted); bad thing if you have a shorterm lease (because you can be evicted at-will).

@victor I think itโ€™s just a neat turn of phrase! TBH I would use โ€œyouseโ€ for that, but I donโ€™t know how well that comes across online. Itโ€™s a pluralisation of the word โ€œyouโ€ which is also very good.

    @alfredohno flat packs are useful, they keep the cost of furniture down and put good quality furniture within everyoneโ€™s reach. I think the only criticism of flat packs I have is that it creates an airportisation of living spaces โ€” from Tokyo to LA, everyone now owns a Bily bookcase. But thatโ€™s not the fault of flat packs, thatโ€™s the fault of consumer capitalism.
