I tried to play chatGPT in a game of chess. I wasn't even sure it could do it... and I was right. Interestingly, it fakes it for a good solid 20 moves or so before it goes off the rails and forgets it no longer has pieces that were captured three moves ago. I even tried helpfully telling it what the current board position was and have it another chance but it only seemed to become more confused.
Oh well, back to playing stockfish and getting my ass handed to me. 😅
It's with noting that chatGPT doesn't know how to play chess so much as it simply repeats chess moves it found on the internet. A neural net specifically trained with the rules of chess might fare differently. It might also help if the inputs and outputs weren't free-form text fields.
Any way, it was an interesting experiment and it only serves to reinforce my belief that LLMs are not these super intelligent agents set to replace humanity any time soon (and probably not ever).
Tech bro whistleblower: "I've left my company so that I can warn you about the dangers of A.I.!"
Everyone: "We're glad you came forward. What can--"
Tech bro: "One day they may control our lives! Then they will grow bored and decide they don't need us anymore!"
Everyone: "Uh, ok but that sounds kinda science fiction-y. What about the more immediate threat to people's livelihoods? CEOs are already cutting salaries and jobs as we speak."
Tech bro: "Oh that? Nah, that's a feature. It's fine."
I'm going to submit a proposal to the w3c to change the name of browser cookies to "bratwurst" based on a conversation between a couple of my German colleagues
I'll do a search for TV shows or movies by subgenres and will sometimes be taken off guard, like when Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me shows up under Time Travel movies.
I'll be like "no that can't be right", but after thinking about it for a few seconds I'll be like, oh right. I guess technically that was a time travel movie.
@xenophora It seems strange for people to try to address the fediverse as some sort of monolithic organization, or even as a singular entity. Like we're some sort of group-think hive mind who have a unified agenda.
I've mentioned this before but it bears repeating here: social media networks are a reflection of your own preferences. It's the people you engage with. Your experience is not even remote universal. "Most people I've seen" is a very tiny segment of the total population.
Some predictions I'll probably regret making later:
I feel like we will end up defaulting on our debt in June. I know we've been down this road before and we've always pulled a last minute deal but this feels different. The US House is under the control of an insurrectionist party and they are out for blood.
I don't think Biden will declare the 14th or "mint the coin". Both scenarios are fantasies.
I think the situation will last for several days at least. Longer maybe.
I am relieved that the debt ceiling was lifted, though I'm not happy with the process overall. Again, the GOP had shown taking the economy hostage is a working strategy and they will keep doing it again and again to get their way.
It's supposed to rain a little bit later today so I installed the window well cover I bought to replace the old one I put my foot through last winter when we were clearing the ice dams on our roof.
