BG3 with my wife. As great as it was I'm already enjoying this a lot more than DoS2, I just enjoy DnD mechanics more and those shields felt suffocating on build options. When she doesn't feel like gaming, I've also been working on Disco Elysium, which has also been great. I'm not really sure how I wound up in this double whammy of games about WORDS. MANY WORDS.

It's really great, my wife and I need to finish the last few acts at some point.

It did have 2 pain points for me, though. For one, there are some encounters where you can get stomped because of you initial positioning, which made us reload and basically game the system for a better start, which felt a bit weird. The other is that, mostly because of the shield system, you can't really make a hybrid character. You'll end up chipping away at 2 separate health pools when you should be focusing on one of them. I haven't played many rpg's like this, though, so maybe all this is standard and/or I'm just bad at the combat.

I3 12100f, gtx 1060 3gb, and ssd on Linux. We since switched to steam deck where we have only had 1 crash. I should be hitting a bit over the minimum specs but my bet is I was running out of vram in cutscenes where the detail is higher.

I agree it's odd. For some it's constant and others it's unheard of. Hopefully they're able to track it down. 3 patches since release is a good sign.

That is a good catch, I clearly glossed over that. I recently gave most of my rig a facelift as I was bottlenecked by my old CPU. A GPU is 100% next in line but thankfully we're still enjoying the game on our Decks.

Wife and I are loving it but it needs some tunning for sure. Performance struggles and crashes are pretty common, and my wife clipped through a door just after the tutorial section. Didn't do anything crazy, just walked right on through a locked door.

I don't really care about the thumbnails but the video titles are awful. I'm not going to click on a video if I don't actually know what it's about. What am I supposed to expect when I start watching just about any of these?

I personally am not one for nudity in my games but BG3 is literally the dumbest hill to die on. If anyone actually is, I didn't see any examples. Reason being, the first thing that happens when you start the game is that it asks if you want to turn it off.

And I'm really hoping we get to hang onto him.

Could it be Knowledge Adventure? I played some of the JumpStart games growing up.

I think if they were sincere in their 'protect the kids' narrative they would be pushing for an age-rating system instead of outright bans. To be clear, they still wouldn't use such a system in good faith, but it certainly wouldn't be as blatant.

The Weekly Discussion Topic - Roguelikes - 28-07-2023 (lemmy.world)

Hello all, this is the first post in a series of posts I’ll be making weekly to drum up some diverse discussion relating to all different aspects of gaming. I figured I would start with what I know, and so the first topic is thus: roguelike games. (If you think any of the below description is wrong or misleading, let me know -...

I love roguelites and the genre melding you can do with them. I've been searching for one that competes with Risk of Rain 2 for me. I've played all the big ones but none have had the same staying power.

The biggest bummer for me is Dead Cells. For most of the run, I slaughter. First two original bosses I can pretty consistently no-hit. Then I get to the hand of the king and die in about 5 seconds every. Single. Time. It's 100% a skill issue but I feel it just asks so much of me compared to the rest of the game on the same difficulty, and I'm only on boss cell 1. I've even gone I to the training mode vs him and his tells paired with my time to respond just have not clicked.

There's also Enter the Gungeon. I also have struggled with it but actively plan to get back into it to work through it.

Lastly, shutout to Dicey Dungeons. It's lesser known and I think everyone should play it.

I feel I could handle a reasonable amount of complexity if I could respec my build. Let me experiment without having to roll through a whole new character. It's a big reason why I prefer Grim Dawn so much. Not because of the complexity but because I can adjust as I go if a part of my build didn't work out the way I'd hoped. Definitely my biggest hope for POE2.

Meta, Microsoft and Amazon team up on maps project to crack Apple-Google duopoly (www.cnbc.com)

Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and TomTom have formed a group that will release data that could enable companies to build their own maps. The Overture Maps Foundation has captured 59 million points of interest, including restaurants, landmarks, streets, and regional borders. The data can be used for free as the base layer for a new...

Mmm, yes. The solution to giant tech companies having all the market share is for there to be a THIRD giant tech company with all the market share. I mean I guess a triopoly is better than a duopoly but it's hardly a solution.

With Guardians 3, I've now gotten everything I wanted from the MCU. If they manage to get things back on track I'd be game to catch up but my hopes aren't high. While flashy, there's nothing here that doesn't look like the same old MCU.

I am very ready for more ARPG from these guys, whether that's a new game or more Grim Dawn.

GreenAlex,

I wonder how that's gonna work gameplay wise. Do we spend maybe 50-75% of the game with all these cool symbiote powers that then go away forever? Not pre-critisizing, just very curious how they'll make that still feel good to play if they go that route.

I don't use much myself, even after 10 months of having one. Mainly just a cheap dock and controllers for local play. I'm actually looking around for a portable kbm combo so I don't need to go to my office whenever I need to mess with files or play something that wouldn't control so well on deck alone. Thinking about the Logitech K380 and M350.

This may just be my device but I have to kill the PWA if I stop using it for around 10+ minutes, else I just get a black screen. Not the biggest problem but a bit annoying because I lose whatever thread I may have been reading.

[Discussion] My "No Tinker" list of PS3 and Switch emulated games that work *almost perfectly

I’ve done a ton of testing trying to find PS2 , GameCube and PS3 era sports games. Most of the PS2 and GameCube stuff works just fine but I wanted to pass on what I’ve seen on PS3 and Switch. All of these games work perfect (IMO) right out of the box and no tinkering is required to get great video and audio. Feel free to add...

I think I've put more time into Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on my Deck than I did on Switch a few years ago.

Gaming hot takes?

Any weird/controversial opinions? I’ll start. Before the remake, the best version of Resident Evil 4 was the Wii version. The Wiimote controls old Resi’s tank controls better than any other controller at the time. The PC version had a bunch of little bugs and detractors that the Wii version just doesn’t have....

Removes mask They were a glyphid all along!

I very highly disagree but to each their own, of course.

IMO the industry overall is in a truly horrible place, but only the AAA and part of the AA space. Indies have been and continue to hold up the industry by themselves.

We just started it too! Not far in, though, should be almost at boss #2.

Can't go wrong with Stardew Valley for something chill and Terraria is among the best games ever made.

A big one I haven't seen mentioned here yet is Plate Up. The best way I know to describe it is roguelike Overcooked with more agency and a slower curve into the stressful moments. We much prefer it as a result. It's been getting free content at a pretty solid pace, too.
