I can't believe it, I created my first meme. Not 100% original, just based on what I already saw in other places, but still, my first meme.

OK, so tomorrow I'll change my breakfast again. I'm tired of dealing with the awful taste of atomoxetine capsules, and this will be the third or fourth time I change what I take for breakfast. Tomorrow I'll try a sandwich of jelly and peanut butter, and let's see whether it'll help me to deal with that taste or not.

Listening to this song, somehow I think about Lemmy's bright future and Reddit's fall.

Finally I know how to make text posts on Kbin, yay!

Now I finally understand everything! So, there are two reddit alternatives inside the fediverse. One is Lemmy, with all its instances and communities inside then. The other one is Kbin, with 5 instances so far but lots of magazines and activity too. And both of them can interact with each other, and with other fediverse services.

I'm neurodivergent (mainly ADHD), and because of that I'm not able to perform boring tasks because I prefer to play video games and browse the web. One alternative I'm considering is to get rid of the graphical environment and live (almost) exclusively in a tty environment, so I can avoid any useless distraction and start performing boring tasks with no excuses.

But I have two doubts about that:

  1. How far can I go within a tty environment? The web can be distracting, but also necessary.

  2. I don't want to change my distribution unless it's necessary, so can I uninstall gnome/plasma/lxqt...? I'm using Lubuntu.

branchial,

I have ADHD as well. I found that while cutting out distractions is helpful it's not enough as I will find distractions as soon as I'm bored no matter what. Living in a TTY only environment would be limiting to my productivity because I cant search the internet as effectively and then you'd have limited your productivity in one aspect in order to increase your productivity in another.

Also I have wasted a LOT of time "optimizing" my workflow over and over again. Only to see benefits so marginal that the time I put into setting it up was never recovered. My advice would be to find a middle route. Block some websites maybe, create a "work only" user profile so if you want to game you'd have to switch profiles and such. But more importantly find other tools to help you with your productivity as well.

Do you set yourself realistic short-term goals (for the next hour, this afternoon or whatever)?

What's your reward for accomplishing them?

If you find yourself in a distraction (it will happen no matter what) how can you reorient yourself? I found a traffic light I have on a card on me helpful. Stop, decide what I want to do, go ahead and do that. If I really need a break I can take it in the knowledge this is what I decided to do. Or I have to choose to go back again. Other methods could be a pro/con list or verbalising what your doing vs what you want to do. The point is that the decision should be made consciously and that you hold yourself to making it and dont avoid it.

I also try to make as many decisions as I can beforehand. What will I do today? When will I do it? Planned down to the quarter hour as much as possible. I write my plan for the next day the evening before and have a weekly schedule for all the routine stuff and as a framework for the minute detaild. Eliminating spontaneous decisions wherever possible has been the best tool for me to accomplish my goals.

Obviously I can speak only to what worked for me. I can highly recommend seeing a behavioural therapist who can work with you to develop your own custom tools in dealing with ADHD. In my experience setting up some idealized work environment won't be close to enough however. It is fun though.

Edit: all of that said, Emacs can do whatever you want it to.

Oh my sweet summer child! I loled when I read your post because I'm neurodivergent too and there are even more things you can tinker with in the terminal than in graphical environment in my experience.

On a more serious note:

  1. Pretty far. Elinks is a text based web browser that can be used for basic sites like Wikipedia or man pages.

It is also possible to have a lightweight display manager like openbox in another tty and switch to it for graphical applications. There are also kiosk type wms where you can launch a single application, though I'm not really familiar with them.

  1. You don't need to uninstall anything. Just switch to an alternate tty by pressing CtrlAltF3 or some other number, login with your username and password and start your terminal journey :) If you ever need to fall back, you can switch to your original tty and login to your lxqt graphical environment.

Other option is to just disable whatever login manager you use so that you get a tty by default. Then if you need it you can launch your graphical desktop with the appropriate command.

I would start with the first option till you're familiar with everything.

Hello. I've been officially diagnosed with ADHD and ASD level 1 (what was known as Asperger) since January of this year. Although I don't consider ASD to be a big deal in my case (it can be difficult sometimes), ADHD is a very big deal since I was in my last years as teenager, with struggles during my previous years. So, diagnosed at 34 years old.
