Excuse my ignorance, I had never heard of DCS before and googled it, is it like a combat version of MS FlightSim? Looks cool and guess found something that might require me to upgrade my poor hardware.. Thanks for the magazine suggestion!
Awesome! Thanks! Also looks like there is a @cscareerquestions magazine, hopefully someone who was on r/RemoteWork and r/CareerAdvice will spin up those here or elsewhere in the fediverse. I know that some subreddit mods did start their subreddits on Lemmy and Kbin.
Yess, subscribed! As someone who still can't make cookies in the oven without adding too much butter and ending up with one oven tray sized cookie, I need this community to keep me motivated.
Don't know if nintendo and fireemblem communities have been created yet anywhere in the fediverse, but @Ianbanger on this thread created cat communities: @floaf@catloaf and @floof !
Absolutely, self-plugs are welcome and that was one of the aims of this thread. It's bit tough to navigate the site and wanted some visibility to the new magazines here. Thanks for making these communities!
The federation is bit broken temporary right now so other fediverse instances don't see kbin communities, but I'm looking forward to the flood gates opening!
And to link the communities so that people here and other instances can go there: you did it correctly, you just missed the @ in the beginning of the magazine name. The syntax is as follows @ MAGAZINE_NAME @ SERVER, so it appears like this and links to the right place regardless which instance the user viewing this thread is on: @splatoon
Btw you accidentally posted the same post many times (probably due to the server lag right now, have the same issue), mind deleting the copies so we could make the thread bit more compact?
Do it! I'm not sure if it already exists in the fediverse, since federation is broken on kbin.social and we can't properly search magazines across the fediverse yet, but I'd guess it's a community that would love a home!
lol I love that, I guess I really need to check it out and hope that if I get interested that my wallet is not going to cry.. But based on the pics on google I'm going to assume it is...
I checked out on sites where federation works, and there does seem to be casualUK, or.. UKCasual: https://lemmy.world/c/ukcasual
You'll be able to subscribe/comment/vote (basically see the post and community as a whole) on kbin.social as soon as federation works again. @ukcasual
Edit: ah, seems like federation partially works (its just fetching updates to kbin bit slower). You can access them by clicking on the @ ukcasual I wrote above :) also found @deathcore on lemmy.ml, guess this link will also point towards the community on kbin.social!
Edit 2: Okay the deathcore link doesn't work.. but I was able to find the community on kbin.social by searching "deathcore" on magazine search: https://kbin.social/m/deathcore@lemmy.ml It's still not properly federated though, but keep an eye out!
AFAIK they should appear in the magazine (community) search if atleast one person from kbin.social has subscribed, and first people on kbin.social to find them are finding them through sidebars of magazines, comments, and browsing other instances.
It works great on instances where this whole federation system is not broken, and I strongly believe it will work great here too! We just need to be bit patient since a mass migration is occurring on this instance which is held up by one person, who is constantly working on making the site scale up to the demand.
You can browse the already "connected" to kbin.social communities (some kbin.social user has searched a specific instance, i.e. typed into the search all together: @ deathcore @ lemmy.ml) to search already connected lemmy instances you can go to magazines tab and type "lemmy". When federation works again, you should see all the communities that have been connected to kbin.social by typing the community name.
EDIT: seems like the normal search (search icon on top bar) finds communities better which have not yet been connected. The federation being broken hinders the search a lot, but I was able to make the first connection to @firefox by typing (all together) @ firefox @ fedia.io and it made the link. Now anyone on kbin.social will find that community in the magazine search.
About the fragmentation of communities: this happens but it can have its benefits. When communities settle some might become more concentrated on a certain aspect of the topic, and crossposting will occur too so you don't have to worry about subscribing to all of them. I know that on reddit for example the original r/TikTokCringe was a cringe subreddit, but with time it became a home for all tiktoks (cool ones too). Someone decided to make a real TikTokCringe subreddit that fragmented from the original one and so on. Both had healthy amount of activity. The original actually became a sub for cool tiktoks, and the newer one the actual "cringe tiktok" sub.
Hey keebinetters and fediverse, what are your favourite kbin/fediverse magazines (communities)?
Lets make a thread to post our niches that we have found here. Big magazines are ok too....
