With Federation on pause for now on kbin.social, I wonder how the fediverse will handle all the outgoing and incoming federation requests then. Reminds me of the Twitter migration and things stalled for a few days.
@cjerrington You were my first "message" on Kbin, I shall not forget you.
(Actually my memory isn't that great so i probably will.)
But thanks for the explanation!!
Reddit went through some issues for many on Monday, with the outage happening the same day as thousands of subreddits going dark to protest the site’s new API pricing terms....
That's the main difference, with federation there is no "main" site, in fact apparently that's not wanted.
What I'm trying to figure out right now is how I can find an app that can access not just Kbin, but Mastadon, lemmy, Pexelfed, Peertube, etc..
From what I understand, after 48 hours of a sub going dark/private the moderators can be removed? Is that true?
Otherwise, completely agree with Louis.
I'm really excited to jump on the Activitypub/Fediverse train, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it works. Kbin is federated (or its supposed to be, apparently DDoS protection is hampering that?), but I'm not sure how I can sign up with my Mastodon account. I already have one, @ArchieBAntlers , and apparently...
This is blowing my mind (your comment). I'm trying to find an app that will access kbin and mastadon, but now reading the arrangement you're describing with following your own sign-in, I don't know what to think.
Going to load up Tusky and see how that goes.
Hey, once again, I welcome the newcomers. It's great to see new faces here :) It seems that we've managed to resolve the server issue. Unfortunately, I had to temporarily disable certain features, such as content auto-refresh. It will be restored at the beginning of next week after the infrastructure change, so you'll get to...
I wonder about the concept of a pinned post that linked to some kind of survey app. One that let you take a survey and would pay the instance for doing that?

Just a heads up there @ernest but yeah when I, a person in the US, does a google search for just "Kbin" your github page is the very top result, and kbin.social is the very first "Kbin" instance.
No idea why that is.
Just got started in the fediverse thing yesterday and was looking for a lemmy alternative, and I've got a feeling people are going to start flooding in because of how Google seems to be favoring your instance over others.
Good thing you upgraded servers!

While trying to wrap my head around the concept of the Fediverse, I made this map. How did I do?
