Patcher for YouTube which adds AdBlock/Sponsorblock/Other various features. Also supports other apps, such as YouTube Music. This is a must if you use YouTube on your phone.
Installer for modded Spotify. Includes AdBlock, unlimited skips, and the ability to play any track on demand, using a free Spotify account. (The installer itself includes an ad that plays when downloading the patched APK, but this can be disabled in the settings of xManager)
Storage utility/manager that's actually good, unlike 99.99% of cleaner apps on the play store. Pro version is free on GitHub, make sure to support the developer if you like the app.
Looking to find more indie/small-web content to replace big tech sites. I enjoy Lemmy and Mastodon, but does anyone know any good Gemini and Gopher protocol sites that actively post content?
@ch1cken
I don't know the specifics of kbin. With that said, having spent time trying to understand how "likes/favorites/stars" work between some other non-kbin and non-lemmy platforms, I think the issue is with how likes federate. Likes are pushed, not pulled. When someone "likes/favorites/stars" something, that gets pushed to all the instances that that person follows. It only happens once and the "home server/instance" that created and pushed the content in the first place doesn't repeat the incoming "like/favorite/star" activity back out. That means that unless the person who clicked "like" also happens to be connected directly to everyone else that got the initial post, only the people who got the initial post AND happen to be connected to the person (on a different server. This doesn't apply when it's all on the same server) will see the like show up on the post.
Ok, I got it that #lemmy and #kbin could be alternatives for #Reddit, after the disablement of third-party mobile apps. Now, I found two apps for lemmy in #fdroid, but where is one for kbin? #android user here.
The Lemmy Frontpage gets cluttered really fast. Is there any way to get a better overview? Maybe a compact view without pictures. Something ike old.reddit or Hackernews....
You could check out kbin.social and see if the customization options can be made to your liking. You can definitely turn off thumbnails on a user level for example and make it look quite old-reddity in general.
Would need a new account of course, but thanks to federation you can still follow and participate in the same communities.
Oh man, the grouping feature would be especially amazing in the context of the fediverse. I'd love to group all my News communities into one set so I can browse just news for instance. I see it like clicking Subscribed with a subset of All, custom group 1, custom group 2, etc.
Old reddit's code is opensource, but I do wonder if it was rendered serverside. Wouldn't surprise me.
But it should be possible to extract it and connect it to lemmy. A project for somebody else though, even if it'd be an interesting project. No time on my hands.
Im joining in on the reddit ditching thing, and was kinda worried at first that i wouldnt be able to like use it the way i did reddit as it feels like a whole new place, but after engaging with posts and people and actually being a part of lemmy rather than being lurk mode all the time i was pleasantly surprised with how easy it...
And to realize that it's an endless loop if users keep jumping one platform after another, better to break free of that cycle by going open-source/federated network.
For example: I tried to search all 3 communities from sopuli.xyz featured in this comment https://kbin.social/m/lemmy@lemmy.ml/t/2938/Which-subreddits-would-you-most-like-to-see-on-Lemmy/comment/6790/...
For a while now I've been quite happy running LibreWolf, with Bitwarden and some other privacy extensions. I've also switched over from Google to Kagi as a search engine; doesn't keep me anonymous, but I do love not being the product for once.
LocalCDN - A much more functional alternative to Decentraleyes which actually does benefit privacy
Temporary Containers - A critical plugin I use to enforce fresh "containers" for certain kinds of browsing. Works with MAC as well; allowing me to isolate critical SNSes and such from just any random old site I visit.
TrackMeNot - Search Engine Privacy tool; set on a very slow; non-default interval. This injects some "background noise" of activity into search queries and browsing traffic.
uBlock Origin - Absolutely Essential Adblocker. This addon shoulders a large load of the blocking and filtering work.
Allow Right-Click - Essential tool to break websites' habit of interfering with my right to use my browser's functionality. ::: spoiler Unsupported or "Problematic" Addons
uMatrix - Additional content filtering addon. Equipped with a lightweight hosts list that only affects well known bad acting sites and trackers. Provides a frontline of defense against novel tracking and fingerprinting domains.
^ Listen; say what you want; I don't care. This addon is something I always pair with uBlock Origin as it provides an additional safety guard against unforeseeable objects, scripts and other nonsense that may appear on a webpage. I can cherrypick what I believe the website needs to function; while denying access to third party scripts and other objects. I still use it to defend my privacy every day.
WhatCampaignSorryIcouldn'tfindaworkingsourcelink;itseemstobedown. - This addon breaks URL tracking breadcrumbs by obfuscating them; which breaks various websites' attempts at tracking behavior and interferes with websites' ability to take actions based on URL tracking.
SponsorBlock for Youtube - Like it or not this little addon saves me a ton of time and helps me avoid feeding an algorithm by alerting me to sponsored videos and skipping unwanted commercials in content I consume. Depending on your ethics; you may or may not want this addon.
Privacy Pass - Sometimes you just gotta do something about captchas...This tool can help reduce them while respecting your privacy
Privacy Redirect - [PARTIALLY DISABLED VIA ADDON CONFIGURATION] - Sometimes you just gotta say "Nope!" to a website like Twitter or Google in general and visit a more privacy respecting mirror website. Invidious anyone? (Unfortunately oftentimes these mirror sites are getting sniped and go down frequently for various reasons; making this addon a frequenly frustrating and unreliable one because you have to disable it so often.):::
Dark Reader : for sites that don't have a dark mode
Decentraleyes
Grammarly: I'm not a native English speaker. I like to write English with good grammar
HTTPS Everywhere
Imagus: for zooming pictures by just hovering
JSON Formatter
Local CDN
MultiLogin : a container like in the Firefox browser
Privacy Badger
Link Grabber : grabbed all the links on the page
Disable automatic tab discarding : I don't like when the tab automatically refreshes when I didn't open it for a while. This extension disables that
Old Reddit Redirect
Reddit Enhancement Suite
Return YouTube Dislike
Snowflake
SponsorBlock for Youtube
For search engines, I'm still using Google. Because I think the results it's more and better (I guess). If not Google, I will use DuckDuckGo or Brave Search
Your Favorite foss Apps!
List your most often used and favourite foss application on your Android phone.
GOG community on Lemmy
I created GOG community https://lemmy.world/c/gog
DEBIAN 12: More Relevant Than Ever as a Linux Desktop (yewtu.be)

Any way to get a Lemmy Interface like old.reddit or HN?

How has ur lemmy experience been so far?
Im joining in on the reddit ditching thing, and was kinda worried at first that i wouldnt be able to like use it the way i did reddit as it feels like a whole new place, but after engaging with posts and people and actually being a part of lemmy rather than being lurk mode all the time i was pleasantly surprised with how easy it...
How do we deal with similar communities on different Lemmy instances?
Say what you will about reddit, at least an established subreddit was the place to gather on the topic, ie r/technology etc....
Reddit is killing their brand in the worst possible way (odysee.com)

Search for remote magazines/communities not always works.
